Condition: The magazine has not been read and the original insert cards are in it. However, the staples are starting to come through the spine and have caused 2 tiny tears—they're so small though, they don't appear on the scan.

Barbara Westman (b 1929-?) is, or was, an American illustrator who was to Boston what Bemelmans was to Paris. She is very well-known for her crowded and meticulously-detailed depictions of Boston neighbourhoods. Although she did extensive work for the Boston Globe, and her work appears in museums and art galleries, and she produced at least ten covers for The New Yorker, she managed to stay entirely out of the limelight, to the extent that no one seems to know if she's still alive.

Descripción:
The Water-Babies, A Fairy Tale for a Land Baby is a children's novel by Charles Kingsley. Written in 1862–63 as a serial for Macmillan's Magazine, it was first published in its entirety in 1863. It was meant as part satire in support of Charles Darwin's The Origin of Species but became a mainstay of British children's literature.
Blackie & Sons Ltd., printed in Glasgow, undated, estimate 1931.
White/navy tweed covers with brilliant scarlet lettering on the spine.
Only the dust jacket is illustrated and the illustrator's name is not mentioned.
This book has never been read. I don't think it's ever been opened. The spine is not cracked, the price remains on the dust jacket, it is spotlessly clean. There is shelf wear to the top of the dust jacket, but it has done its job, and there is no fading to the jacket.

The greater interest in this book may be to those who collect illustrations (although the photos here aren't great). This book was illustrated by Rosalie Fry.
Rosalie Kingsmill Fry (1911–1992) was born in Canada, but moved to Wales as a child and spent most of her life there. She trained as an artist in London and began writing stories in order to have material to accompany her illustrations. Bumblebuzz, her first book, came out in 1938. During WWII, Fry worked as a cypher officer in the Women's Royal Naval Service, while publishing books for children. She also made toys, designed stationery, and contributed illustrations to periodicals. She published more than 30 books;… Leer más

Descripción:
The Wind in the Willows is a 1908 children's novel by Scottish novelist Kenneth Grahame (1859-1932). Alternately slow-moving and fast-paced, it focuses on four animals: Mole, Rat (a European water vole), Toad, and Badger, in a pastoral version of Edwardian England. The novel is notable for its mixture of mysticism, adventure, morality, and camaraderie, and celebrated for its evocation of the nature of the Thames Valley.
The novel was a best-seller at the time, and it is still a best-seller. It has been adapted for the stage and screen innumerable times.
