In original light blue cloth with titles in gilt (somewhat dulled) at spine. Cloth lightly pulled with superficial fray at crown; a bit darkened at spine. Prior ownership penned to front flyleaf appears to be a Frederic W, Pyke (Cambridge). A few mild gaps between signatures; title page and penultimate printed leaf had pulled loose from binding cords but have been tipped in. Light small damp line top edge but not affecting any pages. Martin, also known as Ding Weiliáng, was a missionary who arrived in China in 1850 and lived the better part of his life there.
