This is a second printing of Discovering Britain & Ireland, the best-selling National Geographic coffee table book published in 1987.
It is 448 pages and contains 442 full-color panoramic photographs and 22 maps, all capturing the essence of everyday life surrounded by the rolling green hills and architecture of Britain and Ireland. This volume displays the writing quality and photographic talent that we expect from National Geographic.
Leather/ette-bound with gold latticework covering the large 12x10 5lb. volume.

This is a first US edition of English Cottages and Farmhouses, written by the famed British country/topography writer Olive Cook. It was photographed by her husband, the British landscape and architecture photographer Edwin Smith.It examines the architectural styles of English country homes and farmhouses, describes their methods of construction, and discusses the place of the farmhouse in English rural life. One reviewer called it a 'masterpiece' and it was a best-seller.208 pages, 177 photographs.There is minor fading to the edges of the cover. There is a family-to-family inscription on the front endpaper, which you can remove if you like. Otherwise, this book does not appear to have been read and is in mint condition.

European Photography
is an independent magazine, published out of Berlin, which was founded in 1980 by its publisher, the German artist Andreas Muller-Pohle.This is a rare copy of the summer 1981 issue, Volume 2, Issue 3.

It features '7 Young European Photographers' - see scan of contents, as well as exhibition reviews on the work of 6 artists, including the Frankfurt exhibition of Robert Mapplethorpe.

This is a one-of-a-kind photo of Mel Gibson and Goldie Hawn chatting with another cast member on the set of the 1990 film Bird on a Wire.
It was taken in 1989, during a break in filming at the Roof (restaurant) of the Hotel Vancouver.

This is a first edition of The Great Lakes, written by the famed Canadian journalist and historian Pierre Berton (1920-2004). It was published in 1996 and includes hundreds of photographs by the Canadian photographer Andre Gallant.
It is a historical overview, paired with brilliant photography showing the diversity of landscapes, species, and seasons. It is colored by Berton's personal opinions about war, industry, and the environment and is an engrossing read.
Unclipped dust jacket.
There is a little bit of damage to the paper on the spine, one corner of the front cover, and the first front endpaper (see photos).
Otherwise perfect condition. Lovely book.

Lake O'Hara, The Secret Heaven in BC's Yoho National Park, in the Canadian Rockies, is a 164-page book of photographs. Each page is its own postcard.There are 2 pages of text; the rest of the book is stunning, frameable color photographs, each one 10 7/8 x 6 1/8". The photographs were taken by the author, who is a long-time travel guide specializing in the region.This book is 11 3/4" wide and 8" high. The paper is high quality, so it's quite heavy.This book has not been read, or even opened. It is in mint condition.

This is a first soft-cover edition of The Royal Navy in Old Photographs, by the English naval officer Wilfred Pym Trotter (1897-1984), published in 1975. (I also have The Victorian and Edwardian Army in Old Photographs listed here.)
It is a wonderful cornucopia of images dating from the 1840s to just prior to the first world war. The captions are great and the photographs themselves are mostly of extraordinary quality given the time they were taken. More than anything however, the breadth of subjects captured makes this book stand apart from many picture books about the Royal Navy, and the sailors and officers themselves are often the focus, though rarely posed in pristine uniforms, but rather shown at their work. Beautiful collection.
176 pages with 190 photos. The covers are darkening but the inside is in excellent condition.
