Descripción:
This is a perfect copy of The Children of Dickens, the famous book, written in 1812, by the American minister and essayist Samuel McChord Crothers (1857-1927).
It is beautifully illustrated by the great American illustrator Jessie Wilcox Smith (1863 -1935).
The book is excerpts from Dickens' works involving children, including Pip, David Copperfield, Micawber Junior, Joe the Fat Boy, Oliver Twist, Sissy Jupe, the Cratchits, the Jellyby chidren, Jenny Wren, Little Nell, The Kenwidges, Bailey the Todgers boy, the Dombey children, Jemmy and Alice Watkins, with short chapters on London and Dickens.
On the cover, and on 9 pages inside, there are color plates signed by Wilcox. 7" x 9 1/3" x 1 1/4".
259 pages.
Aside from a couple of tiny spots on the upper right-hand corner, and a faint bump to the back cover, this book is in mint condition. No dogears, no shelfwear, no evidence that anyone read it. It's perfect. It includes an ancient pressed rose, whose stem has been wrapped in cord (see photo).

Descripción:
This coming-of-age story set in the Midlands of Victorian England follows Edwin Clayhanger as he leaves school, takes over the family business and falls in love. Bennett wrote it in 1910 at the Royal Albion Hotel in Brighton, and in Lausanne. It is his 18th novel. The Clayhanger Family is a series of novels published between 1910 and 1918. Though the series is commonly referred to as a "trilogy", and the first three novels were published in a single volume, as The Clayhanger Family, in 1925, there are actually four books. All four are set in the 'Five Towns', Bennett's thinly disguised version of the six towns of the Potteries district that merged into Stoke-on-Trent. All of these novels were produced as TV series.574 pages, 5 ¼" x 7 ½".This copy is a bit of a curiosity. It was published by Methuen London in 1962. It was purchased by Britannia Secondary School in Vancouver, whose staff stamped the endpaper and attached the borrowing card sleeve (you can remove these). But it… Leer más

This is a first edition of The Collected Rudyard Kipling, Illustrated, published by Avenel in 1982. It is 1000 pages, and includes his best-known works: Captains Courageous, Kim, The Jungle Books, Just So Stories for Little Children, Puck of Pook's Hill, Stalky & Co., and Plain Tales from the Hills. It then adds 11 short stories. See photo of that list.It doesn't say who the illustrators are but Kipling did a lot of his own illustrations, so I assume that some of the images are his. This is a first American edition (1963) of The Collector, the brilliant (and creepy) novel about a lonely man who kidnaps a young woman and keeps her in his house, along with his butterflies. It was the first novel by the British writer John Fowles (1926-2005).
This copy has no dust jacket.
It is the plainest of books; 238 unadorned pages.
There is some fading to the cover, and what looks like faded ink spots, but the inside is perfect. Tight binding and clean, brilliant white pages.

Descripción:
Every word that Arthur Conan Doyle wrote about Sherlock Holmes is contained in these two books: all four novels and 56 short stories, just as he wrote them. This collection was first published in the UK in 1927; Doubleday reprinted it in 1969.
Introduction by Christopher Morley.
Volume 1 is 480 pages
Volume 2 is 1122 pages
There is some wear to the dust jackets (which are unclipped), just from being moved around--you can see it all in the photos.
These books were read once, and have been well looked-after. There's one dog-ear, the odd mark here and there, but the pages are all clean and clear. No images or illustrations.
Each book has a very attractive bookplate on the inside front cover--they can be removed.
A very handsome set, in excellent condition.

The page edges are dyed/dappled light red, on three sides. The pages are starting to darken at the edges. It has not been read and many of the pages are still stuck together, as they are when they're fresh from the printer.
Published by Allan Wingate London, as part of the Crown Classic Library, dated 1962. Printed in Italy. The dust jacket is blue with light blue type. It has quite a lot of scuffing. Its spine is faded and it has shelf-wear at the top. But it has done its job. The book's in great shape.

This book is in good condition. Edited, with a Glossary, by W.J. Craig, M.A., Trinity College, Dublin. Including the Glossary, it is 1264 pages.
It needs some TLC; the spine has loosened a little and there are some marks on the covers to be removed.
The cover is dark red with a nice stamped design on the front and back. On the front cover, the word 'Shakespeare' appears in gold. On the spine, it says, in gold, 'The Works of Shakespeare'. There is a small ink mark on the cover. On the back cover, there are 4 small white dots that look almost like bleach. The pages have darkened. There is shelf wear to the spine, and at the top of the spine, there is a 1/4" tear.On the inside front cover page, there is an inscription: 'To Bert, Wishing him many happy returns of the day. From John, 25/1/11'. There is a full-page black and white portrait of Shakespeare across from the title page.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is best known for Sherlock Holmes, but he had other interests and wrote about many different types of subjects--terror and mystery, maritime adventures and British history.
Those stories were published in six volumes. In 1929, the six volumes were gathered together and published as The Conan Doyle Stories. Doyle wrote the preface (see photo). In 1988, the collection was printed again.
This is a near-perfect copy, with only minor shelfwear. I attach photos of the contents. It's 76 stories, 1202 pages, all in perfect condition.

This is a first edition of Dark Torrent at Glencoe, a 1960 novel by the British lawyer and crime novelist Edward Grierson (1914-1975). The dust cover, which is unclipped, is not in the best shape but is OK. The book is fine--yellow boards with green lettering on the spine. 281 pages. Here's a review:The bloody doings in Scotland in 1692 are the basis of a romance, of a historical retelling and of a deed that echoes in the names of the Campbells and MacDonalds. King William III (the Dutch King), and his demand for a sworn oath of allegiance from the clans, is not obeyed by the MacIan of Clan Donald until after its expiration date and Carnoch and other clan hamlets along the Coe River become the target for the Master of Stair who sends Captain Robert Campbell of Glenlyon with troops to wipe them out. The strategy calls for Glenlyon to quarter his men as guests of the glen while they presumably rest before they take Glengarry, who has never signed. Descripción:
Between 1864 and 1979, the great British author Anthony Trollope wrote 6 books called The Palliser Novels. They revolve around the wealthy aristocrat and politician Plantagenet Palliser and his wife, Lady Glencora, and they cover the sweep of Victorian society. They are considered satire and parody of English life, and criticism of the British government's predilection for attracting corrupt and corruptible people to power.
In 1977, Oxford University Press released The Palliser Novels in separate 5" x 7 1/2" volumes. I have the full set: Can You Forgive Her?, Phineas Finn, Phineas Redux, The Duke's Children, The Prime Minister and The Eustace Diamonds. You can buy as many as you like--please contact me first so I can combine the shipping. If you want the whole set, please contact me.
The Duke's Children is #6 in the series. It is illustrated by the English artist Charles Mozley. The novel deals with the duke losing his political position, and being suddenly widowed and having to deal with his… Leer más
