Jacket is warning ripped but has done a good job protecting the book cover that boards show only minor edge soiling and tanning. First edition thus. Signed by the author on the first free end page. Also included is a card from the author which states " In response to your recent request, Mr. David Lawrence sends to you, with his compliments, this copy of The Business Man and His Government". No other handwriting noted in book. Unpaginated (approx. 41 pages). No hinge cracks present, no torn or loose pages, no other handwriting noted.

First edition thus with single date on the copyright page. Illustrated end pages. No signatures or bookplates though one of the front end pages shows were a store price was penciled in the corner and then erased. End pages show some toning because of the paper reacting with the dust jacket. A nice clean copy with only some minor foxing, toning and fade on the exterior. DJ has price sticker in corner. Exterior shows spotting and soiling along with edge and corner wear/creases. Exterior shows small black spots in darkening, mainly along the edges. Staple bound binding is good, nothing torn or loose. Pages are toned due to age and a few minor smudge marks are present. No signatures or bookplates, no handwriting, no library markings. The book is unpaginated but has approximately 24 pages. Book code on inside rear cover is M3480. Exterior shows some darkening around the edges, mainly on the front wrap, corner show only minor wear. Internal binding is good and pages are tight. The book would normally grade much higher except for an issue at the center or looks like insects ate the top inside corner of the center page quadrant with minor holes in the two adjoining pages. No signatures or bookplates, no handwriting, no library markings. The book is unpaginated but has approximately 24 pages. Book code on inside rear cover is M3480. Exterior shows minor fading and soiling but spine is sunned. Interior pages are toned due to age but binding is good, no hinge issues, no signatures or bookplates. First edition thus with single date of 1913 appearing on the copyright page.

DJ has edge and corner tears along with chipping at the corners and spine. Extremely rare to find with dust jacket in any condition. Maroon cloth boards underneath show little handling with front board having marks in the upper left corner with the shine to the cloth is wearing off. Interior binding is good, no hinge issues. Pages are quite toned due to quality of paper used. Front pastedown contains a large bookplate which reads: " A book shelf in the corner and a new book each month will soon gather The Good Home-Makers' Family Library for the members of the Men's Friendly Union". New York: National Board of the Young Womens Christian Associations of the United States of America, 1919. 3rd Printing. Soft cover. Good-. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Softcover, original publication with the copyright page stating third printing, November 1919. Gray paper wraps show edge and corner wear along with some soiling. Top section of spine is missing and this is bottom left hinge corner. There's a cut on the front that does not go all the way through. Binding good, no torn or loose pages. Pages are toned due to age and show corner bumps. We did find one page where somebody took a pen and mark a paragraph on the outside edges (page 15). Rear end page has original owner's signature. Title page has some raised brown marks near the hinge which just appears to be binders glue.

Lansing, MI: Cere Root Specialty Company, 1923. 1st Edition . Hardcover. VG-. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, inscribed and signed by the author to his friend, the Rev. L. B. Bissell of Lansing Michigan, and dated Dec 20, 1923. Original binding of green cloth boards with red leather to spine. Exterior shows spotting and soiling in leather is worn and spots, particularly along the edges. There are several spots on the hinges which are worn completely through to the backing. Edges and corners show bumps/wear. The internal binding, for the most part is good except for the front hinge, which is starting to open along the top half. The rear hinge is fine and all of the pages are secure. There is also a tear in the tissue guard for the frontispiece. All illustrations have been verified as being present, though there are also some in the book that are not listed on the index page. Hardback, tan paper boards decorated in gilt and green on front. Exterior shows soiling and sunning with loss to spine at top and bottom. Edges and corners also show bumps and scuffs. This is a rare publication which was presented as a souvenir of the clubs 34th anniversary dinner. Title page has a business card of James S. MCcartney (an officer of the club) with a brief inscription penned and signed. Front end page shows a stamped name of H. S. J Sickel, Attorney-At-Law, Philadelphia. This is the original publication and not a reprint. Each page is only printed on one side and the pairs are folded at the top.

London: Groombridge and Sons, 1869. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Hardcover. Original brown cloth boards decorated with gilt and black, blind stamped on back. Illustrated with eight color plates and numerous wood engravings. All color plates have tissue guards and all eight have been verified as being present. No signatures or bookplates noted, all edges gilt. Spine is cracking and rear board and foxing is noted throughout with the worst being on the end pages. Minor ripple of front board at center hinge area - likely a design flaw. See photos.

London: J. A. Allen & Co., 1925. Hardcover. Good. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, red cloth boards with gilt text on front. Exterior shows spotting/fade on the bottom outside corner of both sides. This was likely caused by moisture but has not affected the interior pages or pastedowns. Internal pages are secure though webbing is thinly exposed at pages 16/17 where the book was opened too far. Page 17 also has a minor corner crease. Front end page is a gift inscription and a small stain which is also present on the front pastedown.

The original price of $4.95 still present on the front flap. Dust jacket has edge wear and tears. Red cloth boards shows bumping, mainly along the top edge binding is tight end pages are clean though end pages show foxing spots the larger mark in the hinge area of the front end page. The front end page also has a large inscription written in something other than English. We were told this was from the author but cannot be verified so were are not considering this book to be signed.

New York: Oxford University Press, 1977. Soft cover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. This is an advance proof, uncorrected proof. These extremely limited copies were sent out to be proof-read for corrections before the book was actually published. The paper attach to the front cover states the title has a" probable publication date" of April 1977, with a probable price of $15.00. PP insider hand numbered but no other hand corrections have been made.

DJ has moderate edge chipping/bumps/small tears/soiling/creases and/or scuffs. Interior is clean and binding good. No remainder marks or handwriting in book. Our original store price was penciled inside front cover but has since been erased. DJ in mylar. DJ has sticker residue in upper right corner.

Hardcover, green cloth boards with gilt text and design on front. Exterior shows some darkening to the edges and spine along with soiling and edge bumps. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings present. Pale blue end pages and pastedowns in front and rear show dark smudges along the top edges. Copyright page states sixth edition.

New York: White, Gallaher, & White, 1831. Hardcover. Good-. 16mo - over 5¾ - 6¾" tall. Original leather bound hardcover. Copyright 1831, this edition with design for schools and is considered to be the first edition that was designed for schools, though Webster's first dictionary was originally published in 1828. Original leather boards and spine. The front board is loose but still attached at the bottom - mostly by the binding thread. A section of label is missing on the spine. Front end page has original owner's name, with an 1831 date and "Hagerstown Academy" (Maryland) written. Moderate to heavy foxing noted throughout. Rear page and pastedown both have pencil scribbling. Rear end page missing. Original owner's name also penned on rear board (W. Chew). The 1831 publication was listed to contain 532 pages plus two end pages, so it appears that alll that is missing is just the rear blank end page. See photos.

New York: A. Jay Cross Optical Company, 1911. 2nd Edition . Hardcover. Good-. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, bluish green cloth boards with guilt text on spine. Exterior has a dampstain on the front board which is the main reason for the low condition grade. Rear board has a small crease in the cloth in the upper left corner area. The internal binding of the text pages is acceptable but hinges at both boards show cracks that were repaired at some point. There is also a thin line of webbing showing at page 112/113. Paper is toned due to age but text pages are clean. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings present. Some of the pages, such as the illustration index page show some very faint staining in the upper inside corners. This in no way affects the readability of the book in any way. Exterior spine states second edition.

Softcover, original publication in original wraps. This is the January, 1854 issue in the front cover states "to be continued quarterly" along with a price of six shillings. Front cover is detached but present, and both covers have chipping along the edges and corners. Front cover has the faint penciled signature which appears to read P. N Riggs. Internal binding is mostly tight though fragile and there is a section in the front that is held on only by a single thread of binder string and nearly all of the page quadrants still uncut along the top and fore edges - showing this book was never even read. In addition to the 317 pages there are also dozens of pages of advertisements and in the rear of the book there are pamphlets included with titles such as "An analysis of the schoolbooks published by Authority… Leer más
