DJ shows toning and scuffing along with numerous edge and corner bumps/wear chips/tears, the largest air being less than 1 inch. Green cloth boards underneath show only the slightest edge bumping and toning and cloth is still bright. The internal binding is good and text pages are tight. Pages are quite tanned due to the quality of paper used by the publisher. The front pastedown has (presumably) a price which is written in blue pencil. No other markings found in the book itself though there is a small pen mark on the DJ's front end flap, just below the center in the pink area. No bookplates no library markings etc. The book itself would grade as near fine to fine condition if the pages were not so darkened. Hardcover with dust jacket. The front of the jacket shows well but the reason for the low condition grade is because spine and rear paper on the DJ shows spotting and holes. Light green cloth boards underneath show little handling wear but there is some foxing spots along the edges and spine. The internal binding is good and text pages are tight. There are no signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting found. Pages are clean like the book was rarely used. Copyright page states first printing.

Hardcover, dark yellow boards show some scuffing and soiling and edges and corners show bumps/wear. The rear board has some color marks and spine edges are starting to fray. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting, no scribbling etc. Pages are toned due to age, especially around the edges. First edition thus with a single date of October, 1936 on the copyright page.

Boston, MA: Ginn and Company, 1943. Hardcover. VG+. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, red cloth boards decorated on front and text to spine. Exterior shows only minor edge wear, spine is slightly sunned and fraying at the bottom left corner. Interior binding is good and pages are tight. No signatures or bookplates, no school or library markings. The only handwriting found in book is on the front end page in the upper right corner where a price was once penciled and then erased. An attractive copy that with only minimal usage wear.

New York: Eaton & Mains, 1913. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good+. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, grayish green cloth boards with decoration on front, white text on spine. Exterior shows edge and corner bumps along with soiling and scuffing. Interior binding is good, no hinge issues other than a bit of pulling. Front end page shows original owner's name written in pencil. Pages are lightly toned due to age and some minor foxing is present. First edition thus with single date of 1913 appearing on the copyright page. The early 20th century book to mothers so they need teach their children basic sex education, using flower development as examples.

New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1917. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Good-. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. DJ is darkened and spotted with numerous chips and small tears along the edges. The reason for the lower condition grade is there is a hole at the spine area which is also torn (the missing piece of the hole is present and has been placed in a glassine envelope and put with the book) . Green cloth boards underneath show edge spotting along with light corner bumping. The rear board has a dark spot in the lower left corner area. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues. The front pastedown has a small postage stamp size label, but this is the only markings in the book. No handwriting, no remainder marks, no library markings etc. Pages are toned due to age but are clean. The end pages and pastedowns both show foxing in the rear pastedown has a small splash mark in the upper left corner.

New York and London: Harper & Brothers, 1903. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fair. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, green cloth boards decorated on front, gilt text on spine. Exterior is quite scuffed and soiled along with heavy wear to corners and edges. The internal binding is opened at the title page but hinges are good at boards. There is also a thin cracks starting at several locations where the webbing is peeking through. Page 110/111 is torn from a bad separation for the pages were once uncut. Every page is ornately decorated and tinted in colors of blue, green, or orange. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting found. Pages are tone due to age and there is some spotting and foxing present as well as smudge marks. The copyright page shows a single publication date of November, 1903.

Detroit, MI: Johnson Smith & Co., 1930. Soft cover. Good-. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Softcover, original wraps with text pages staple bound. Front cover and first page is missing the upper right edge. Undated publication from the infamous Johnson Smith and Company, who is known for selling everything from rubber chickens to whoopie cushions to x-ray specs. In 1931 they produced a book (catalog) entitled The Book of Forbidden Knowledge - which promised magical things, all for the price of your allowance. One of the items advertised was this book: "The Book of Great Secrets: Valuable Money Making Recipes", which contains everything from recipes for drinks to cures for whooping cough to a new method of embalming. No publication date listed but Johnson Smith and Company moved to Detroit in 1930 and this address is listed on the back cover. Pages are quite tone due to age and poor quality of paper used. Chicago, IL: Reuben H. Lilja & Co., Inc., 1942. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good. Folio - over 12 - 15" tall. Milo Winter. See photos for condition details. Call softcover, measuring 12 inches in height. All of the pages except for the last one is a large cutout bowtie in the center that lines up with the red polka dot one on the last page. Exterior covers are toned due to age along with edge and corner bumps. Spotting and soiling is also present. There is a tear at the top right the rear cover and also one about 4 inches up from the bottom left corner exterior hinge is open at the bottom about 2 inches. The interior pages (unpaginated) are also toned with some light spotting and smudge marks. No tears or found on the interior pages though there are some small corner bumps that of caused small creases. The only handwriting found in the book is what appears to be a crayon line on the page opposite of the one with the "Mr. Tittlemouse". This line measures about 3 inches long and has a… Leer más

Boston, MA: Lothrop, Lee & Shepard Co., 1905. Hardcover. Good. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, blue cloth boards with gilt text to spine. This is a library binding from the Free Public Library of Trenton New Jersey. Exterior has this stamped on the spine along with catalog number. Interior binding is good and was reinforced when rebound. Yellow floral end pages are still present in front and rear. Internal pages are toned due to age and some foxing and spotting is present. Note: this is an ex-library edition. Title pages punched stating it is from the Free Public Library and rear end page and paste down has date card and pocket. Small stain noted on illustration between pages 128 and 129. The page is also slightly wrinkled.

Philadelphia, PA: Henry Altemus Company, 1905. Hardcover. Very Good/Poor. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. DJ is poor shape and is very brown, chipped, and separated at spine, but it did a good job protecting the cover of the book has this still has bright colors. Pages are toned and end pages are tanned due to reaction to the dust jacket. 1913 Christmas gift inscription on front end page. No torn or loose pages though some pages have smudge prints and foxing. This book is part of the Altemus' Illustrated Children of the Bible Series, as so stated on the DJ.

New York: A. L. Burt Company, 1913. 1st Edition . Hardcover. VG-/Fair. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. DJ is worn and faded with numerous chips and tears, back of jacket has stains along the top edge. Green cloth boards underneath have good color to the decorated front but the top edge of both boards shows fading and there is some loss to the cloth in the gutters. The internal binding is good and text pages are tight. No hinge issues, no signatures or bookplates, no handwriting, no library markings. The front pastedown contains an ink stamp in the lower corner from the original bookseller. Pages are toned due to age and there are some smudge marks and foxing present, though this is mainly limited to the end pages and pastedowns.

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1919. Hardcover. Fair. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, maroon cloth boards show scuffing and soiling, spine has a three-quarter of an inch tear at the bottom center, the upper outside corners of both boards have a dampstain present. The stained is not affect the pages in the front but you can see spots on the back pages starting at about page 410. The front and rear interior hinges are good at boards, but there are spots within cracks are showing, though this is more of a pulling issue in a cracking issue. The illustration at page 218 sticks out just a hair more than the rest of the pages. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting found. Pages are toned due to age and there is some foxing present, though this appears to be mainly around where the illustration pages are at, and is due to the two different types of paper reacting with each other. Hardcover, red cloth board show spotting and soiling along with edge and corner bumps/wear. Top of spine is a few small tears and spine is darkened. The internal binding of the text portion of the pages is good but there is a then crack at the rear hinge at the next-to-last end page. The rear hinge at board may possibly have been repaired a one point. The same issue is present at the next-to-last front end page as well. The book has some early library markings: the front pastedown contains a bookplate from the J. Herman Bosler Memorial Library (Carlisle, PA) and the opposite end page is stamped "Discarded" along with a small number written in the upper corner. The rear pastedown is also stamped Discarded with some markings on the opposite end page. There is an embossed circular stamping on the title page from the library as well as page 538. Hardcover, brown cloth boards show spotting and soiling spine is sunned. Edges and corners show bumps/wear and the top of the spine is starting to fray. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates present, no library markings, no remainder marks, no handwriting found. Pages are toned due to age but are clean. The copyright page shows the number 2, designating this as a first edition, second printing.

New York: Frederick A. Stokes Company, 1913. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fair. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. George Alfred Williams. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, black cloth text and paper label on front. Exterior shows some fading and scuffing but the reason for the low condition grade is because there is damage to the cloth the top of the spine and at the lower left edge of the front board. Edges and corners also show bumps/wear with the backing showing in spots. The interior binding is overall good but there are some issues: there is some pulling in spots and there is damage at the rear end page/last text page where the paper is torn at the hinge, center area, which may be the result of an old attempted repair. The front end page contains the signature of a previous owner which is the only handwriting found in the book.

New York: Holt, Rinehart & Winston, 1951. Hardcover. Near Fine. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Charlene Bisch. See photos for condition details. Tall hardcover, colorful exterior shows only minor spotting and soiling, many long the top edge of the front board. There is also very light edge and corner bumps/wear. The internal binding is good in text pages are tight like the book was never read. No signatures or bookplates, no handwriting, no library markings etc. For the most part pages are clean and bright though there are some minor smudge marks and foxing spots, though this is mainly limited to the end pages and pastedowns. The title page states this is a "Kin/Der Owl Book". The only publication date listed on the copyright pages 1951 though this may be a later printing as the Library of Congress catalog card number listed on the same page starts with AC 66 -. Book is unpaginated.

Chicago, IL: M. A. Donohue & Co., 1901. Hardcover. Near Fine/Poor. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. H. M. Paget. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. DJ is quite tattered and soiled and is in two pieces along with a small piece of tape at the top of the spine where there is also a piece missing. The front of the jacket also has a faint name written in pencil just to the left of the title. The red cloth boards underneath or clean and crisp. The only issues being some light bubbling of the cloth at the bottom of the rear board and there is some small specks of green paint (which matches the paint on the illustration) just below the author's name on the front. There is also some minor bumping present on the outside turn-in edges. The internal binding is good, no bad hinge issues other than some pulling at page 191. Paper is toned due to age but pages are clean with only minor foxing. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting found.… Leer más

Indianapolis, IN: B. F. Bowen & Company, 1907. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcovers, two-volume match set bound in pale green cloth with marbled textblock on all three sides. The book conditions are similar for both volumes with minor handling wear and edge/corner bumps. Spines are also faded on both volumes. Internal bindings are good, no hinge issues. Marbled end pages and front and rear are free of any bookplates, handwriting, or library markings. Pages are lightly toned due to age and there is some very minor spotting and foxing present. Please note: as this is a two-volume set that weighs over 5 pounds, non-US sales or priority mail option will likely require additional postage. Media mail rate is not affected.
