Not found in OCLC as of 2/18/2022.Lightly soiled, soft vertical crease throughout, brief foxing, otherwise very good.Apparently an unrecorded offprint from a 10 part series originally published in Harper's Monthly beginning in 1872. Strother, an illustrator, journalist, & Confederate brevet brigadier general, is sometimes credited with introducing the new State of West Virginia to the rest of the country. Although fictionalized, his account is based on actual events. "On a pleasant day in June we started from the Berkeley Springs on a pleasure excursion to the Allegheny Mountains. Our equipage was an old-fashioned Troy coach, drawn by four horses, and painted red. The coachman was a native mountaineer, whose eccentricities would furnish material for a readable chapter ..." ~Excerpted from page 1.
