Early 19th century half calf; gilt particulars to spine. Red edges. The work of a major Roman poet, ca. A. D. 45-96. One of a famous series of 50 volumes of Greek and Latin classical authors published by the Societas Bipontina, beginning in 1779. Bipontium was the modern Latin name for Zweibrucken (or Deux Ponts) in Bavaria, where the earlier volumes were printed; the project was later transferred to Strasbourg. The preface provides a quite thorough index of significant manuscripts. Notes on front fly (see image). xxiv, 527pp.
