London: The "Review of Reviews, 1896. Hardcover. Very Good. Periodical magazine. Two bound volumes each containing 12 consecutive monthly issues (January-December). Thick quartos. Contemporary half polished leather and cloth boards, marbled endpapers, all edges marbled. Wear to the board edges and corners, the 1896 volume lacks the front free endpaper, else very good. Founded and edited by the great Victorian reform journalist William Thomas Stead, *The Review of Reviews* was the first true tabloid magazine that reached a global audience. A pioneering investigative journalist and feminist, Stead was the first editor to employ female journalists, and accordingly there are many articles from both volumes that profile several of the leading suffragists of the day. Like Rupert Murdoch, he wielded considerable political influence, and was at the time the best known Englishman who went down in the Titanic. A handsome set.

[Berkeley: no publisher, 1972. Unbound. Good. Broadside. 14" x 14". Old fold, some offsetting, hand inked date ("Oct., 72"). almost certainly incomplete (or more optimistically, perhaps badly designed) probably missing the lower portion. the all-women band Isis, started by the founders of Goldie & the Gingerbreads, recorded three albums, and despite some critical success never really achieved popular success. Presumably this poster (or fraction thereof) is rare.

Handwritten church ownership statement on the front fly, near fine in a very good dustwrapper lacking the top .75" of the spine, just touching the top of the title. The fragile jacket is uncommon. Addams on the problems of "white slavery.

With the original printed paper wrappers, bound in contemporary dark purple three-quarter morocco and marbled paper boards, top edge gilt. Light scuffing to the board edges, light soiling to the wraps, about near fine. A handsome copy in a custom fine binding with seven leather inlays on the spine.

Minneapolis: Coffee House Press, 1995. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First edition. Fine in fine dustwrapper. Although not marked in any way, this copy is from the distinguished modern first edition collection of Bruce Kahn.

New York: Harper and Brothers, 1922. Hardcover. Very Good. Early reprint. Bookplate, modest wear on the boards and the spine ends, a very good copy lacking the dustjacket. Nicely Inscribed by the author: "Once a working woman always a working woman, but at half a hundred years what a place to be a working woman as Twin(?) Meadows, Williamstown, Mass! Come again! Cornelia Stratton Parker." Below the inscription is a penciled date, probably in the hand of another: "Nov. 1935." Parker worked undercover to report on the working conditions of six working class women's professions, originally serialized as six articles in *Harper's Magazine*.

A few pages roughly opened with resulting small chips or tears else fine in fine dustwrapper with just a touch of wear. A lovely copy of an exceptionally uncommon title, apparently intended as mildly salacious fare. Very uncommon in jacket. *OCLC* locates no copies of this edition.

The second of two separately published volumes of Child's writings first published as a series of columns in *The National Anti-Slavery Standard* between 1841 and 1843.

London: Methuen, 1927. Hardcover. Near Fine. First edition thus, a re-issue of the second edition with a new appendix. Near fine, lacking the scarce dustjacket. Inscribed by the author: "Dr. Ray McAfee from a grateful friend, Mary Mills Patrick. May, 1928." A book that attempts to place the poetess Sappho in the context of her historical surroundings. Patrick was a feminist educator and the founder of the Constantinople Woman's College, which became the leading center for higher education for women in Turkey. She managed to keep it open through the Balkan Wars, the Turkish Revolution, and World War I. She firmly believed in and advocated the equality of nations, the equality of the sexes, and higher education for women.
