Contemporary half polished calf with marbled paper over boards. Five spine compartments between double gilt rules. Black leather label in second compartment with gilt-tooled series title "Home & Colonial Library." Gilt-tooled titles in fourth and fifth compartments. All page edges speckled red. Green endpapers. Black (dark green?) cloth with gilt-stamped spine title "Hill's Poems" and gilt-stamped center-medallion harp on both boards; blind-stamped decoration on both boards. Pale yellow endpapers. Includes Errata slip tipped in following Contents. Former owner's name on front fixed endpaper: A.E. Phillips. Dedicated to Ebenezer Bailey, Esq. of Boston. The author, George Hill (1796-1871) graduated from Yale in 1816 and taught mathematics for the Navy beginning in 1827. His experience in the Mediterranean with the Navy inspired his poem The Ruins of Athens, which was published anonymously in 1831. This is the first appearance of the other poems in this volume. Scarce. In Good- Condition: cover is soiled with several small ink spots; ends of spine and corners rubbed; ends of spine fraying; endpapers are discolored; foxing throughout; a few leaves are partially detached but volume is complete.

Publisher's advertisements on final 4 unpaginated pages. In Very Good+ Condition: leather torn along lower front joint; otherwise, clean and bright.

New York: Munn & Co, 1895. Paperback. Near Fine. 16 pages (paginated [1], 16568-16582 p.): illustrations; 41 cm. Front illustration is the Queen of Madagascar. Contains illustrated articles about Alpha, the educated horse; the Barrows electric tricycle; a hydraulic steam lifeboat; and a sea water distiller. Also, The Human Races of Madagascar by E. T. Hamy; and a full-page illustration of two German war vessels, Ersatz Preussen and Kaiser Wilhelm. Scarce. In Near Fine Condition: one horizontal fold; otherwise, clean and solid.

Full calf with six spine compartments between gilt rules. Front fixed endpaper bears former owner's name: E.J. Deane. At head of title page is inscription: G.A. Finch 1807. In Good+ Condition: one vertical crack down spine; front board detached but present; back joint starting, but stitching is solid; small amount of leather lacking at ends of spine; frontispiece map and one other engraving each have a small repair; otherwise plates are clean and solid; text is clean and bright. A scarce copy of this fictional "tour" of Asia Minor and the Greek islands, based by the author on actual travel accounts of the area.
