New York (1925): The Century Co. Octavo. 517pp., folding map and illustrated with nearly 100 photographs by the author and others, of which one is of Thomas Moran at age 85. Lummis has written several books on the Southwest as he traveled and studied the land and its people. Bound in rust pictorial gilt cloth lettered and decorated in black dark brown and gilt, minor rubbing to corners and spine ends, previous owner's name on front pastedown. A very nice copy.

Norman, Oklahoma; (1958): University of Oklahoma Press. First Edition. Octavo. 303 pages, index. Illustrated One of the finest histories by one of the Southwest's premier historians of the Mescalero Apaches from their history to their betrayal by the Spanish, Mexicans and the Americans. A fine copy bound in light brown cloth, spine lettering in dark brown and yellow, in a near fine unclipped dust jacket showing only light wear to spine and spine ends. Very nice.

Sante Fe: E. Brevooort, 1874. First Edition. Octavo. 176 pages. Brevoort was a speculator who in the era wrote one of the earliest locally printed histories and the definitive work of its period, based on information furnished by early settlers and the author's own residence of 24 years. He already had substantial interest in land grants he had purchased so he was the best known of the promoters of the state. His friend William F.N. Amy had written a smaller book in 1873 but allowed his name as a reference. He writes while many disparage the land for farming, the Navajo, Zuni, Paiute and even the Apache cultivate the soil. What makes this item unique is both the two book plates one of which he signs: "the author" and a previously unknown broadside entitled: TO MEN OF MONEY! To the World of Capitalists, Producers and Live Stock Men. He goes on to note the prospect of coming railroads, note in ink he offers land at 30 cents an acre. All entries are photographed in b&w, with notes of provenance, and figure describing colors used, and special distinguishing features. Bibliography. Bound in maroon cloth stamped in gilt, spine lettering gilt. A fine bright copy in a very good pictorial dust jacket with a closed edge tear to rear panel, and tiny edge tear to front panel, spine lightly, but evenly faded.

Octavo. 246pp., This story is of romance and adventure, faithful to historical fact, and accurate in its detailed presentment of the New Mexican scene as it was a century ago. 246pp., bound in red cloth decorated in black, spine lettering black. A very good copy in tape mended dust jacket.

Albuqueque; (1966, 1970, 1977 and 1984): University of New Mexico Press. First Editions. Octavo. In 4 volumes: V. I: 462 pp., 528 pp., V. 3: 702pp., and V. 4: 785pp. and signed by editor Charles H. Lange. illustrated with photographs, maps and numerous drawings by Adolph Bandelier. This work is comprised of a day-to-day field notebook, as well as an intimate diary of Bandelier's daily observations and moods. The journals provide a firsthand account of a pioneering anthropologist's reactions to the Southwest. The four volumes cover the years 1880 through 1892. Bandelier traveled extensively in New Mexico. Mexico, Arizona, and brief trips to Illinois and Europe. He visited nearly all the northern pueblos, lived in Santo Domingo, spent months at Cochiti where he recorded ceremonies and delved into the social organization of the Pueblo. Quarto. 400pp. Many full page color plates along with several smaller color and black & white illustrations and photographs. A scholarly treatise on the development of Taos, New Mexico as an artist colony, and the pivotal role that patrons and artists had there in the early 20th century. Bound in light tan cloth lettered in gilt, ispine lettered in gilt A fine copy in lovely pictorial dust jacket with light rubbing to rear panel.. Essential for the collector and art historian for Taos.

New York: Longmans, Green and Co, 1927. First Edition. Octavo. 247(1) pp., illustrated in color by Awa Tsireh and others. Awa Tsireh was a famous artist of San Ildefonso and has her illustrations in several well known museums and galleries. The Indian stories are usually told in the Winter's evening. Stories are not told during Spring or Summer as everyone is busy tending crops and other jobs that need tending. The stories within are each headed with a short biography of the storyteller who told that story. A very nice copy bound in beige cloth lettered and decorated in brown and black, spine brown and black, pictorial endpapers, small spot near foot appears to have had a sticker of some sort and there is a shadow, light finger soiling, off-setting from plate on title page. A very nice clean copy without names or bookplates.

New York City;: The Press of the Pioneers, Inc, 1934. First Edition. Octavo. A history of Taos, New Mexico and the people who made history through out time in Taos. Apparently rebound, but handsomely done in blue cloth lettered in gilt, spine lettering gilt. A fine copy.

(Santa Fe, NM, 1988): Clear Light Publishers. First Edition. Octavo. 269pp. Illustrated by photograph. Well-traveled Santa Fe Trail couldn't help drawing a few bad men. The angry citizens of Las Vegas, NM had a running feud with outlaws, and more than a few were jailed or hanged in that fine town. A fine bright copy bound in gold paper over boards, spine lettering gilt, in near fine unclipped pictorial dust jacket , spine just a bit faded. Very nice.

Denver; (1966): Alan Swallow. First Edition. Octavo. First printing. 300pp., Story of the work at Los Alamos contrasted with a woman nearby developing her own psychic powers while showing a cast of remarkable characters ranging from an atomic physicist, a bookseller and an anthropologist. Bound in gray cloth, spine lettering gilt, some toning to board edges. A very good copy in clipped dust jacket lettered in black, spine lettering pink.
