A stylish illustration for Simpson's article presaging a hypothetical upcoming battle for mineral and land rights on the moon, this based largely on technologically valuable minerals - titanium, beryllium, vanadium, cobalt, manganese, uranium, and chromium - for which the moon was known or expected to be important source at the time (1982); since then, of course, its value as a prospective source of Helium 3 for use in fusion energy production has, at least in theory, trumped all those. Certainly never read. Moderate age-toning to the pages, faint soil at top right, rear cover, and two thin apparent creases at spine, but these are superficial and not pronounced. See scans. Fine, pristine. With an intense and beautiful sci-fi mood, Salwowski's cover far exceeds those of several other editions of the famed novel. Big and striking, a room-center eye-catcher hanging on the wall - it is, in fact, hanging on mine right now, with another Mark Salwowski piece. Frame is not included, though. An early post-apocalyptic story, at a time when that theme was not nearly so overdone as it is in these somewhat preachy days in sci-fi. Notable for being an early one. A Near Fine book in a Near Fine jacket; no serious flaws in either case, but enough imperfections to mean not Fine. Books shows some tiny lint and small dust spots, some of those at page edges - all perhaps cleanable - and jacket has small-scale top-edge crinkle (though no tears or chips) and a little rubbing. Octavo, olive-green cloth (the green cloth apparently varied a bit in shade with this title), 210 pp.; pictorial jacket, correct with twenty titles on the back. Iconic endpaper designs of course are by Alex Schomburg; in this case, as with several others in the series, Schomburg also executed the memorable dustjacket. Near Fine book, with very little sign of wear anywhere; top page edges a bit darker than bottom edges or fore-edges, as is almost always the case. Not a whole lot of age-toning to the textblock, either. Jacket isn't quite VG, but is NOT price-clipped, still showing the $2.00 price. General light wear, some scuffing, particularly at edges of boards. See scans. Light old tape stains at pastedowns. Faint occasional foxing, previous owner's penciled inscription at half-title. One leaf, that after the title page, has apparently been excised; text unaffected. Overall, Very Good. Interesting and well-preserved early French edition, from approximately the 1870s, of Verne's tale of the Baltimore Gun Club and the 900 foot long cannon with which they endeavor to arrange mankind's first visit to the moon.
