By the time of this issue, Charles Dana Gibson - famed illustrator and creator of the "Gibson Girl" - was President of the magazine to whom he sold his first pen-and-ink sketches in 1886 to John Ames Mitchell, the founder of Life Magazine (this Life Magazine is distinct from the photojournalistic successor of the same name which was created by Henry Luce in 1936). His Gibson Girl, in fact, first appeared in the pages of Life Magazine in the early years of the twentieth century.
