Illustrated with 17 engraved plates and a mounted engraved frontispiece, large octavo, pp xvi, 318, top edge gilt, the other edges untrimmed, a neat owner's name opposite the half-title, a folding map in good condition at the rear, publisher's quarter morocco and cloth; sadly, the binding is not in good condition - the upper cover is very faded and marked and the spine is worn and lacking a few small pieces, the edges of the front endpapers and the half title are slightly stained, this has spread to the frontispiece though the actual image is barely affected (see illustration). {Large paper edition of 250 copies, of which this is number 183.}. First Edition. Quarter leather. Fair.

Large 8vo, pp 648, very clean internally, paperback, covers a little frayed and browned, spine fraying slightly, lower cover torn and repaired internally with cellotape, but otherwise sound. With the neat signature of Pat Brenan (ex-director of Kew) on the upper cover. [A wonderful source of historical and economic material - bananas, onions, aloes,agaves, colchicum, yams, lilies, irises etc .]. Paperback. Good.

Quarto, pp 20 + 60 plates (of which one is coloured), clean internally, original printed soft cloth, bruised wrinkled and marked, the spine fraying and lacking a portion at the base, with a small hand-written totle label. The Hartland Library copy, with labels and manuscript notes attached to the front endpapers, and stamp on the verso ot the title page. RARE, and equally rare to be found in any better condition than this. [The Library was formed by Edwin Sydney Hartland, and was a diverse, but major, collection of herbals, archaeology and anthropology. It was donated to Gloucestershire County Council in 1936, and was eventually dispersed around 2010.]. {Philibert Charles Berjeau (1845-1927) was a natural history illustrator and lithographer, active in London in the late Victorian era. He was a pivotal figure in the rediscovery of Maya civilization throughout Middle America and in the planning of the Panama railroad. He and the draughtsman Frederick Catherwood visited a total of 44 Mayan sites such as Mayapan, Uxmal, Kabah, the gateway at Labná, Sayil, Xtampak, Chichen Itza, Tulum, and Izamal.
