Gravesend & Welling, Kent: Blaker & Company and The Author, 1953 First edition, August 1953. Paperback book : green card wrappers lettered in white and black, white plastic ring binding. Unpaginated, 22 x 15cm. Printed on various coloured paper in sections, with some blank pages for notes. No illustrations. Preface entitiled: Good Tasty Cooking Within the Reach of Everyone. General hints followed by 200 recipes, and a suggested menus section. A Good copy overall. The wrappers are fair only, creased and with tear to front top corner, and the front wrapper has pulled partly away from the ring-binding. Pages are well bound, and mostly clean and very good, a few have small stain to margins and light staining to one page, from usage in the kitchen. Pictures available.

London: Frigidaire Ltd, 1930 First edition. Paperback book : white card wrappers with outer orange paper jacket, with decorative title cartouche to front in black, blue and orange. 69pp, 18.5 x 13.5cm. With pictorial title page printed in black and orange and each page heading also having a decorative image in the same colours. Begins with guidance on using a Frigidaire refrigerator for the home: this was in the early days of people using such appliances, and the recipes of course are designed to make use of it. Includes ice creams, sherbets, beverages, salads and reheated foods. The recipes were prepared for this book by Mrs Cottington Taylor of the Good Housekeeping Institute. This is a very well preserved little book in near fine clean condition. The contents are fine, the Very Good outer jacket has some light rubbing to edges, a little colour fade to spine and a few small spots. Pictures available.

London: The News Chronicle, c. 1937 Appears to be the First edition. No edition information given, or date, but is post-1935 from contents, probably c.1937. Paperback book : pictorial card wrappers with attractive multi-coloured printed image of chef with various dishes to front, and CWS advert to back. Sewn binding. 148pp. Recipes, cooking advice, and 52 menus, all designed to be affordable. Many of these had been featured by Ambrose Heath in the News Chroncile. The text is interspersed with various adverts eg Drink Milk Daily, and inside the front wrapper is an advert for the goevernment's National Mark scheme for food. Good condition. Wrappers lightly soiled with various marks and with wear and creases to edges, including small losses to spine strip, but front image bright. Occasional browning to pages but well bound and mostly clean. Pictures available.

London: Stanley Paul, c.1915 Presumed First edition. Undated but from style and contents prob. circa 1915. One of the Everyday series of cookery books edited by Gertrude Paul. Hardcover book . Blue paper-covered boards, lettered in white and black, and with image of woman preparing food to front in black, white and blue. Fry's Cocoa advert to back cover. 81pp plus publisher's catalogue; trade adverts inside front cover and on flyleaf. Preface then a simple recipe per day of the year for either breakfast, lunch or dinner. A Fair copy. The pages are good, mostly clean wirh some light marks to margins, and browned closed edges; the binding is holding though a little slack; the covers are worn spine strip cracked with small losses. Wide range of recipes for different days of the week and types of meal to fit in with busy lives- informal and direct with Bill Granger's enthusiasm for food. Fine copy in a Fine dustjacket. Colour pictorial paper-covered boards with green cloth spine, lettered in red and blue to front cover in English and Chinese, with printed image of Chinese woman. 156pp, plus index, quarto. With a b&w photo and various line drawings in plates. Introductions (including utensils, seasoning, methods of cooking and menus) then main recipes section; text in English with Chinese recipe titles as well. A Good copy. Coves bright mostly but with abrasions to edges, and browning with some small stain spots. Pages well-bound and largely clean, some small stains to top margins and the odd spot stain. Paperback book : light blue card wrappers lettered in dark blue in art deco style to front wrapper, with advert to back. Thread and glue binding. Small quarto format. 64pp. With b&w photo of the new Sussex Eye Hospital, Brighton (which opened in 1935), and photo of the president, with introductory text by her (this book was published as part of its fundraising appeal), plus 4pp of information about the hospital, including 2 more photos. Recipes throughout, with some commercial adverts between. A Good only copy. Some grubby marks and spotting to wrappers, which have detached from the contents due to glue drying, and have tear to spine. Pages well-held together and clean. Pictures available.

Partly a biography of the French gourmand Grimond de la Reynière, whose life spanned the late Ancien Regime, the French revolution and after; includes selections from his book The Almanach des Gourmands. Month by month short traditional British, French etc recipes, the vast majority involving meat or fish. Fair condition. Covers have various water splash marks to front and back; edges are rubbed. Includes Appendix with new recipes. A book intended for the improvement of the cooking skills of servants. Fair only condition overall. The spine has split so the book is in two sections, the front board is almost detached, and the covers are very worn and abraded. The pages are generally clean, some are tanned, and there are various usage marks ; the first 100 or so have a brown stain to the lower margins; the closed edges are browned;there are no prelims before the title page , The book starts with the title page.
