Five volumes consisting of the whole of the 'London and Middlesex' section of the series - 'Beauties of England and Wales'. This series originally published in 25 volumes. These 5 volumes were published between 1810 and 1816 are marked oddly, but form the complete set of 'London and Middlesex. All volumes are unifomly bound in full leather with 5 raised bands, Gilt titling on 2 labels and gilt decoration to each compartment. Probably contemporary or near contemporary bindings. Each spine has some damage, some worse then others, and Part 3 has the front cover and front endpapers detached. ALL Edges Marbled. One Volume in the series - 'Beauties of England and Wales'. This series originally published in 25 volumes. This volume 3 forms CUMBERLAND, The ISLE of MAN and DERBYSHIRE. The Isle of Man is not part of the title on the spine but is present and consists of 42 pages, 1 Plate and a wood-engraved tail-piece. The Volume is bound in full leather with 5 raised bands, Gilt titling on 2 labels and gilt decoration to each compartment. Probably contemporary or near contemporary bindings. The spine has some flaws/damage, splitting to the edges of the spine. Some small chipping/repair-work with some tiny loss to the head/tail of the spine, but hinges holding despite some splits and overall is an attractive book. ALL Edges Marbled. Slight sliver of fading to the head/tail of the spine - In the original publisher's glassine dust- jacket, with black titling to the foot of the front of the d/j and the price 30s 9d net to the foot of the inner flap. Some chips and a some loss to the d/j spine as to be expected with these fragile glassine wraps. This copy also includes a 19 pp stapled 'Supplement to the book covering the 1st January 1967 to the 31st March 1974. (a few small brown stains to the cover of the supplement, but VG inside). Internally the book is FINE - NO Inscriptions or marks. Map on endpapers. Black and white frontispiece. 143 pp. Index. Illustrated in black and white. Very TIGHT and BRIGHT. In the original blind-stamped (decorated) brown cloth boards with bright gilt titling 'Book of Fishes' to the front board. Boards are a little patchily faded/marked but tight and sound and the book looks good. Printed by Harrison and Co. , London. The page fore-edges are slightly browned and there is some very light foxing, a few marks and some inky 'Thumbing', but overall the book is pretty clean, thight and bright. There is a former owners' note in Welsh on the front free endpaper. (viii) +160 pp. A lovely b/w full page frontispiece of 'The Interior of a pilchard-curing house, in Cornwall by Whimper. Rough cut edges (chipped). As Usual Printed on Very Friable paper which almost always browns slightly and chips, but overall a Good copy of a quite Scarce Title. Hessian cloth spine with a paper label, and paper covered boards, which are worn, a little soiled and rubbed, the paper title label also very worn/rubbed. The book is sound and tight with the exception of one index page which had come loose (now replaced in the book) and is very repaired (with clear archive tape) around the edges. Sold by 'Edward Colby Evans, Bookseller and Stationer, 3, Guildhall Square, CARMARTHEN'. No Date - but from the photos and the numbers on the last page I am fairly sure this was a 1904 publication. Red thin stapled card covers with lettering in black and a gold border around the title 'Carmarthen' and an oval gilt heraldic device in the centre of the cover. A black lettered gilt bordered Advert for 'Masters & Co.' s' Clothing store at Waterloo House, Nott Square on the rear cover. There is a little light edge wear, small tears around the staples, some corner creasing, and a little of the red colour from the covers left small spots on the first and last pages in a couple of places, o/w a VG copy.
