London: Virtue & Co. , n.d.. Illustrated. 4to. 3/4 leather with green buckram and gilt lettering. Book condition: Fair former college library copy with evidence of the removal of three plates. Hinges are cracked. Rubbed, lightly soiled, and stained boards with small abrasion on foot of spine from removal of library tag. Endsheets are faded at edges. Book plate on front pastedown. Pages are lightly yellowed at edges and have light spots and smudges.

Full-leather binding with detailed gilt decorations on all aspects, wide raised bands, five compartments, gilt edge (which have flaked), marbled endpapers. Some rubbing and dulling at the extremities, foxing on interior pages. Nineteenth-century bookplate. Eighty-one engravings over the two volumes are present with the original tissue guards. Volume one is 162 text pages + plates. However, volume two is only 52 text pages + plates. While there is direct sign that later text pages have been removed from volume two, it is certain since page 52 ends in mid-sentence.

Bound in half leather and green patterned cloth over boards with four raised bands on the spine, label stamped in gilt. Top edge gilt. Gilt ruled covers. Rubbing to the edges and extremities with boards showing through in small areas on the fore-edge and leather scuffed. Corners bumped. Engraved title page is lightly foxed. With 50 engravings throughout (including title) from paintings by J. D. Harding, George Balmer, E. W. Cooke, Thomas Creswick, and other eminent artists.
