Stewart of the RA was picked up at Gupis to take command of the two guns Colonel Kelly had brought from Gilgit. His account was also publisged in Proc.R.A.I. volume 22 number 8.

Three of the extra photos are stuck in on blank pages and have captions attached. The rest are loosely inserted at relevant pages.

An apparently unread ex-library copy, in fine condition apart from three ink stamps of Trent Polytechnic Library, a Dewey reference at the base of the spine and two added library labels. Paris: George Hurtrel, 1886 first edition. 272 pages. 4 colour plates, 6 full page text illustrations, various chapter heads and tail pieces. A fine copy in half calf and marbled boards, gilt lines and motifs on the spine. Number 50 of 100 copies on Holland paper signed by the publisher. La Tour d'Auvergne made his name on the Spanish frontier where he commanded la colonne infernale. Ownership signature of Lieutenant J C Sutton who no doubt, as was intended, carried the book in his pocket while on manoeuvres. Charles Slack must have made a fair amount of money from gutting the official Field Exercise for the benefit of volunteers, This compendium consists of the 28th edition of his Company Drill, the 14th edition of his Battalion Drill and the 10th edition of his Brigade Drill.

London: Sampson, Low, Marston, 1940. xxi and 584 pages. 14 colour plates and many other illustrations. Small square 8vo. Publisher's yellow cloth slightly faded. First edition of this useful crib containing short histories of all the Indian regiments and corps with supporting chapters on the evolution of the Indian Army, its order of precedence at different dates, medals etc'.
