In full leather prize binding by Bickers and Son, gilt heraldic arms to front board, gilt double fillets to board margins, five raised spine bands between gilt double fillets, gilt lettered spine label to second compartment, remaining compartments gilt, binding worn but sound, matbled endpapers, presentation label to front pastedown, occasional unobtrusive soiling and spotting to text and plates, last few leaves (booksellers catalogue) excised. A good copy.

First edition, volume 2 only (of 2), octavo; 416pp. In contemporary full cats-paw calf (lightly worn, spine rubbed with loss at foot, front hinge weak and held by cords), single gilt fillet to board margins, raised spine bands, gilt lettered green leather volume number label present but title label missing, remains of removed old ownership label to front pastedown, sporadic light spotting otherwise a clean copy, with engraved frontispiece of Marie Antoinette's secret cipher. A good odd volume example of this uncommon early account.

Very Good/Very Good. 12mo; vol.3 only; 360, [xii]pp, complete with engraved frontispiece and attractive typographic headpieces. In contemporary full leather with five raised spine bands and gilt lettered red leather title label to second compartment (board corners bumped with minor loss, spine lightly rubbed). With early ink ownership inscription to front pastedown. A very attractive volume; ESTC T160272 (vol.3).

Volume four only (of six), octavo; 483pp. In contemporary uniform full speckled calf (worn to extremities), gilt roll to board margins, five raised spine bands, gilt lettered red and black labels to second and third compartments (labels chipped and partly missing), remaining compartments gilt, small early label ("Sb") to front pastedown, opening and closing leaves lightly spotted, a good first edition odd volume from Georgel's account of Revolutionary France to 1810.
