Succinct description of Aboriginal art in all mediums, from body painting to sand drawings, bark paintings, painted wooden shields, engraved stones and dendroglyphs. Mountford was an esteemed anthropologist and scholar of Aboriginal religion. Staple bound octavo booklet, illustrated in black & white and colour; original illustrated wrappers, a near fine copy.

Sydney: The artist, 2021. Signed Limited Edition. After a visit to the J.D.Salinger centenary exhibition at the New York Public Library in 2019. Limited edition of 500 numbered copies, signed by the artist. Letter to son Matt Salinger in 1974: "I like, love Emerson, more than any other American writer." Bound in pictorial wrappers, stapled. 15 cm x 21 cm, 56 pages, a fine copy, in the orginal numbered envelope.

New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1968. An illustrated adventure in the extreme tip of South America that celebrates the bleak majesty of this vast wilderness. Quarto, profusely illustrated with engraved plates throughout, original blue cloth; the top-edge of the front board is a bit sunned, yet a very good and crisp copy in a worn dust-jacket.

This copy has been inscribed to esteemed anthropologist Dr Fred McCarthy and signed by the author. Canberra: Government Printer, 1975. First Edition. An exhibition of the Sidney Nolan Gift of twenty-four paintings to the Australian people. Includes many works from Nolan's brilliant Ned Kelly series circa 1945 and the 'Burke and Wills Expedition' (1948). Staple bound oblong quarto booklet, black and white plates, very good copy, clean and bright.

London: T. Nelson & Sons, 1937. A contribution based chiefly on a study of the Black-Headed Gull. "The Black-headed Gull owes its name to its hood. As the hood is brown, although it may seem black from a distance, the name is not happily chosen. It stresses, moreover, a feature that serves as identification mark in the breeding season only. Outside the breeding season the bird's head is white, with a few dark flacks. A better means of recogition, present at all seasons, is the red legs and beak... The assumption kept in view throughout the book is that the gull, and birds in general, have a mind as well as a body." Quarto, bound in dark blue cloth boards with gilt title, 232 pages, photographic illustrations, stamped 'Wellington College Natural History Society', a very good copy.

Large octavo, bound in decorated green boards with colour pictorial onlay, fifteen colour plates tipped-in, a nice copy of a charming little book.

Melbourne & Sydney: Lothian Book Publishing Co, 1917. First Edition. Australian author, Tarella Quin (1877 -1934) began her literary career writing children's books in collaboration with the celebrated artist, Ida Rentoul Outhwaite. Quin published her first book with Outhwaite in 1910 - Gum Tree Brownie and Other Faerie Folk of the Never-Never - embarking later into the world of romantic outback fiction for adults. 'Nelia's beauty was spoilt by her mutinous discontent with a fate that had chosen to send them bad seasons when she was just at the age to burst from bush-girl chrysalis into a butterfly. It robbed her tilted mouth of gaity, and put storm into a pair of the most glorious grey-blue eyes that ever girl possessed.' (Chapter 1, Paying Guests ). Octavo, 311pages, bound in cloth boards, spine frayed at hinges, pages lightly browned, a good copy of an uncommon book.
