Fine exhibition catalogue highlighting a myriad of works illustrated and written by this celebrated children's book writer and artist. The exhibition began in October 1996 at Maruzen Co. Ltd. galleries in Tokyo, Japan, travelling in December to Kyoto and Nagoya and then to Neilson Hays Library in Bangkok, Thailand in January 1997. Illustrating more than eighty books, Sendak's original art is in constant demand by private collectors everywhere. Nearly all of his artwork is archived at the Rosenbach Museum and Library (Philadelphia). An important and essential monograph on the evolution of the map as the first dissected game puzzle, the development of the dissected map as an educational tool and the relationship among the booksellers and map makers/dealers of that time. It primarily details an important set of five dissected puzzles, published by John Spilsbury in 1766 and 1767 which were recently discovered, housed in a contemporary 18th century 5-drawer mahogany cabinet with ivory labels comprising a record of this earliest recorded series of puzzle-maps. Each dissected map is accompanied by a guide sheet and includes Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America, and Ireland.

The whole survey, arranged chronologically, takes us from early primers to social awareness and political dissemination as patterns in the evolution of children's books in China. In 1954 he represented Tibet as government official to the first National Assembly of the PRC meeting Chairman Mao, at that time also accompanied by the Panchen Lama. Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989.

Irene Slegt was one of the three brave women journalists, herself a photographer and war correspondent, who stayed and ended up with the 1500 refugees at the UN compound in Dili, East Timor, to report on the atrocities and erupting violence since the Independence referendum, and witnessed while the Indonesian army was purging the Timorese of their religion, culture and social fabric.

Federica Montseny was an anarchist who served as the Minister of Health and Social Policy in the Second Spanish Republic during the Civil War and at the time of publication, the first female member of any Spanish government's cabinet or anywhere in Western Europe.

This monthly was mainly for high school English teachers and English learners to improve their English abilities, edited by professors at universities, the first issue published in 1945. This issue includes the first part of Mark Twain's famous story "The Jumping Frog of Calaveras County", Twain text excerpt runs from pp 14-16 and with extended notes pp 17-20. Also includes W. H. Auden's poem "Refugee Blues" (12 stanzas, pp 30-31). Also includes a crossword puzzle for beginners listed as "Contest No. 30".
