The Abbé Delaplace, a keen student of deaf education and almoner at the Institute of St. Médard in Soissons, produced this attractive illustrated alphabet for the instruction of deaf-mute students with mouth and tongue positions with phonetic descriptions together with detailed illustrations of the vocal organs and lungs. A very nice copy.

The catalog contains 2225 lots, with a focus on science and natural history.

"The whole of the patterns illustrating this work, were turned by the author, some on box-wood, and others on metal; and every pattern bound up with this copy, has been printed with his own hands, by means of one of Mr. Cowper's parlour printing presses" (foreword page 2). Some leaves with small waterstain in upper blank margin. Four leaves heavily browned.

The book contains two chapters, the first covering pages 1-90 with a detailed description of this mathematical instrument, the second its mathematical derivation with numerous examples. After starting his career as a teacher in southern Germany and France, Parrot (1767-1852) was very successful as a professor of physics and rector of the University of Dorpat from 1795. One folding plate with the various parts of the instrument.

Interesting manuscript by a professional calligrapher and practical mathematician dedicated to the Prussian senator and senator of the town of Saltzwedel Wilhelm Erdmann gewidmet. The principle idea enclosed in this small treatise could well be used to encode text. A fine copy.

First edition of this brochure, illustrating the modernising of NASA's logo in many fields by the New York design studio Danne & Blackburn, with examples of printed publications and other advertising matter, graphic illustrations on cars, planes, and rockets, sign boards of all shapes, publicity in newspapers and commercials and on television programmes. It was in use from 1975-1992 and reinstated in 2020. Fine.

Etched playing board with rules of the game in lower margin of the sheet and publisher's number 221. Sheet-size 407 x 335 mm. Very rare and beautifully illustrated etched sheet for dice game; the centre field of the playing board depicts an outdoor scene with a dressage show of monkeys in various costumes with spectators behind wooden bars, in the corners more or less anthropomorphic images of four species of monkeys. 14 of the 30 fields showing monkeys in various costumes doing acrobatic stunts, and if you enter one of these fields you have to according to the rules restart from the beginning or pay a penalty. - Georg Nikolaus Renner (1803-1854) was an art dealer and publisher in Nuremberg since 1826. From 1837 Friedrich Schuster became his partner, from then on the company was called "Renner & Co" – therefore the present game must have been published before. An almost perfect copy of a finely illustrated example of a monkey theatre dice game, a subject which became very popular in the 19th century.

Loosely contained in publisher's cardboard box with oval engraved label "Neue mit Maschine geschnittene Zerleg-Bilder America" pasted onto top lid. (422 x 352 mm). Sides rubbed, with a few tears, and on left and right side small parts lacking. A fine example of a dissected map, complete and with only a few brown spots, by one of its leading manufacturers in German speaking countries.

A fine example of the works of the husband and wife printsellers, Mary and Matthew Darly. From the time of their marriage, they worked in tandem designing, engraving and publishing prints using the signature, MD or MDarly. Mary was one of the first professional caricaturists in England. The present collection includes many of their most famous prints, including numerous "macaroni" satires. Contents fine.

A businessman, head of the firm begun by his father, Lavretta also served as a state legislator, a member of the board of public works, and an Alabama delegate to the Democratic national convention of 1900. He is considered the first Italian-American mayor of a major city in the United States. (3), slightly varying sizes but mostly carte-de-visite format comprising views of the city (32) with views of its catholic churches (5) and 8 portraits of catholic clergy including 4 portraits of the owner of the album Georg Pax. Two hand coloured lithographed broadsides by Lemercier after Victor Adam (1801-1866) and Louis Stanislas Marin-Lavigne (1797-1860) heightened with gum Arabic, each with a large central image showing Napoléon on horseback one dated 1800 the other 1815, each framed by 20 further images which relate important steps in his military and political career giving a full account of his reign closing with a view of his tomb on the island of St. Helena. Large folio (660 x 500 mm). Mounted and framed within modern white cardboard passepartouts. Light foxing, in margins else fine. Two spectacular large size lithographs in beautiful contemporary hand colouring, celebrating Napoleon's life and accomplishments. Many of the small images depict battle scenes others with important political events. Lower margins of each sheet with variant hand coloured allegorical vignette, one showing a heraldic eagle the other the Code Napoléon. Well margined copies.

First published translation of the 'Book of Documents' (Shu-ching), and also the first of the 'Five Classics' on Confucianism to be translated into an European language. The basis for the translation was a manuscript which had been sent from Peking by Antoine Gaubil (1689-1759). However de Guignes corrected the translation based on the Chinese original which was found in the Royal Library. He also filled in missing pages and extended it with his own notes.
