First edition of this collection of poems. "As a physician I was with the sick and dying daily - and have never become hardened to seeing human suffering. And when the child, the teenager, and all the others who suffer disability or death before their proper time, turned to me to help them, when the powers of medical science failed, I wept with them. And I still do in my poems."Miller (1907-71), a scientific researcher and teacher of medicine, studied chemical engineering at MIT, and medicine at Harvard. During World War II, he worked for the Public Health Service, answering all President Roosevelt's mail that pertained to medical questions.
