Descripción:
"Samuel Miller (1769 – 1850) was a Presbyterian theologian who taught at Princeton Theological Seminary. From 1813 to 1849, he served as Professor of Ecclesiastical History and Church Government at Princeton Theological Seminary, and was also integral in founding the institution. He was a member of the American Antiquarian Society. Throughout his life, Miller was a vigorous participant in many of the controversies that took place within the Presbyterian Church, including that which resulted in the division of the Church into new and old schools. He was also considered an authority on many of the issues that faced Christians, especially Presbyterians, of his time. Miller is, perhaps, best known for the theological, polemical, and biographical writings he published throughout his life." In this sermon, the first published in the Presbyterian Preacher, Miller strongly asserts the primacy of the Bible as the revealed Truth of God and its importance in the sanctification of man.

"The following relation is partly intended as an advice to such of my professional brethren as may have to execute public works in foreign countries; partly to show that British subjects abroad are not generally afforded that protection to which they are entitled, by the category of personages whose duty begins at the zero of international relations, and known by the name of Charge-d'Affaires; but specially to submnit the particular case in which I have been the victim, to the impartial judgement of the highest tribunal on earth – that of British opinion, of whose favourable award I entertain a conscientious conviction."
