Newspaperman Kent Cooper (1880-1965), having conceived during the early 20th century of news delivery to newsrooms by telephone, was hired away from United Press by Associated Press in 1910, rising to executive director in 1943. He had conceived in 1926, and established in 1935, the AP Wirephoto system, and AP's world news service in 1938. These advances changed how and when news of World War II, for instance, reached the home fronts, with AP news writers and photographers around the world. Cooper's career at AP continued until his retirement. His influence was widespread.
