This is the scarce large paper reprint set, with 20 illustrations by Thomas Stothard & engraved by C Heath as called for.These have been very handsomely rebound in full dark brown leather wtith raised bands gilt ruling to the same, red title and vol labels gilt titles and sailing ships in two compartments and Robinson under the shade of a tree with his dog in the other two compartments date at base all in gilt, marbled endpapers new endpapers. A faded contemporary ink signature on the title page & pencilled writing the top of the preface page of vol 1 and again on half title & rear of frontis vol 2, this volume has old water staining from the half title stretching almost halfway across the page becoming less apparrent through to page 97. Blue marbled boards leather corners , new end papers some pages a trifle marked foxed & slightly yellowed otherwise very good, rough cut edges, An engraved frontis of Holt, Holt was General of the Irish rebellion army in the 1798 uprising there is a contemporary ink signature on the top of the title page vol 1 & again on the half title page vol 2 this vol has a facsmile of Holts hand writing as the frontis. A Rare limited deluxe edition very finely produced in full vellum with title on spine and the front board with quill and horse shoe ink pot, gilt ruling and gilt key`s in each corner, orange & gold silk endpapers, with a very fine book plate of a family crest, pages through out are of hand made paper by A King of Alton Mill, all rough cut or yapped edges, includes a bound in letter from the publishers stating this De Luxe edition is limited to 150 copies. This copy number 44 is signed by the author & the artist (the Wag) the author states that he asked the publisher for an artist to illustrate the book they supplied one from his Regiment who was, and remained unknown to him always. The book is written in an ammusing way but full of very usefull and knowledgeable information about difficult horses and training horses, both the water colour and sketch illustration are very funny indeed & every page is illustrated. 248 pages. . A scarce first edition second state ( page 123 line 17 visitor corrected to sister) 39 plates and frontis of young Charles sitting in a chair all ilustrated by Phiz, plates are foxed as is always the case. Spine divided into five compartments with small geometric snakelike design impressed into the brown leather as is commonly found on Cork bindings (we therefore believe this is a contemporary Irish binding) , black title label and gilt, marbled boards and endpapers, neat signature of a former owner on ep 625pp. A small hole within the top compartment does not detract from this handsome binding. . Amsterdam, 1654. A rare early map of Ireland by the famous Blaeu family of Amsterdam possibly the most important cartographers of there time, centre fold with a fairly large but not heavy damp stain at the bottom, & small tear just above the cartouche, trimed close to the plate mark but still showing. A very fine cartouche and decorated milage scale, complete with a rural scene of two sheep and two young shepherds, surmounted by the Irish harp below a Royal Crown , a second cartouche is in the top right hand corner with the British heraldic shield showing the crests of England, Scotland, Wales, & Ireland flying the St Georges Cross flags with another Royal Crown. A handsome map with early or possibly contemporary hand fine colouring. Provenance= from the library of THE MACDERMOT , Prince of Connaught, Coolavin Co sligo who is named on the map. RARE.
