Seuil, 2000. Hardcover. Fine/Very Good. Book is in as new condition, jacket is almost new with some light scuffing. Collectible and gift quality.

Chronicle Books, 2010. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Book has light general wear, perfectly functional but the three AAA batteries are not included. Issued without jacket but instead a carrier case with no serious defects: some wear here and there and especially to lower corners and the top panel where the plastic handle is located is not flush when closed. "Featuring audio songs from the Cornell Lab of Orinthology....all 747 breeding birds in North America." Basically, you see the illustrated entry to the bird, type in the reference number and you here it sing through the attached sidebar digital player. Original list price of $125, oversized 15 x 14". Due to flippers (for you wheelers and dealers) and ficklers (will send pictures for review) that seem to be mushrooming nowadays, I will vet potential buyers before confirming order, won't be playing buyer's remorse or unrealistic expectations on this one. I have no problem in not selling this gem.

Livraria Itatiaia Editora / Universidade de Sao Paulo, 1981. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Faintly yellowed page edges and spine otherwise in fine condition, dust jackets have minimal wear. Collectible condition. This fourth edition essentially reprints the text of the 1976 Melhoramentos third revised edition, there are however differences in preface, bibliography and layout. This deluxe edition is a three volume set inserted in the Reconquista do Brasil series (volumes 46-48) in hardcover edition with dust jackets whereas usually this series is published in softcover. Cover art by Claudio Martins. Translated by Lucia Furquim Lahmeyer. Reviewed by B.F. Ramiz Galvao, Ernst Winkler, Basilio de Magalhaes. Includes facsimile of cover of original German edition. BW illustrations, musical scores, charts, volume three has a pouch with two folded maps. Éditions Auguste Picard, 1937. Soft cover. Good. Rare collectible. Just beginning to fox on page edges, hard to see at first glance and the interior is crisp and immaculate, some of the pages are still uncut. The covers have been mostly well preserved by book cover though exposed areas (spine, top and bottom margins) are sunned. Only major defect is the binding, still square and strong (sewn) but with several stress crease lines in the spine; Préface de J. J. Marquet de Vasselot, in-4, XII + 135 pp. + LXXIX de planches.

Felix Juven, editeur, 1904. 1st Edition . Soft cover. Very Good. Text, illustrations, fold out map and interior in general are in fine condition: bright and clean and crisp, most pages are still uncut. Some browning of the covers, especially the spine which also has two chips and a warp near the tail. Spine creases have not split or cracked, still holding together well.

Stockton, CA: Schell Books, 1995. Soft cover. Very Good. Carole Reedy and Cari Richey. Corners lightly bumped/bent/creased and edges rubbed just enough to not rate this copy as fine. Minimal wear in VG+ condition. As one who has plied the Sacramento river on a boat since the 1970s I can confidently say this is an iconic key title for its portrayal of the Delta with "boating as a way of life" perspective. Oversized 8.5 x 10.75, 336pp., fine interior profusely illustrated with BW photos of virtually every historic building, landmark, marina, slough and boat on the Delta. On cover states "Waterway maps, bridge charts, marina facilities, Delta history, tales of the Dellta, boat-in restaurants, favorite anchorages, the paddlewheeler days".

Italy: Piccin-Nuova Libraria, 1991. Hardcover. Near Fine/Good. 2 volume set. Books like new; the dust jackets look new too but they have tears, rather large on back of second volume. See photos. Oversized, well illustrated.

Flohic Editions, 2001. Hardcover. Very Good/No DJ. Coffret de deux tomes. Quelques marques de manipulation légères. Emboitage plastique passe. Plastic slipcase yellowed and soiled. Both volumes like new interiors, both volumes have mild scuffing to boards and separation gaps at head of spine. Profusely illustrated, 1405 pages. Rare.

G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1969. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Dust jacket is price clipped ($7.95), has a small chip in lower front right corner, one small closed tear in front top edge, frayed spine tips, and some soiling to back cover. Front face is still quite compelling (see photos). There is a separation gap at head of spine and the book readily opens at both pastedowns. Text block is tightly bound and the text bright, crisp and clean in fine state unaffected by yellowed page foredges. 318 pages with index and over140 recipes. Signed first editions 6910 are quite scarce and highly collectible so it is priced accordingly.

Scarce title (total print run of 150) in collectible condition: immaculate interior and illustrations covered with rice paper inserts; only visible flaw are a few faint smudges to the covers (see photos). Loose leaf as issued and verified to be complete.

Lodi, CA: AMP Press, 2000. Soft cover. Good. After three decades of bookselling it is astounding that I can pick up an unknown title and still be blown away. Who is this force of nature in my own backyard? Published poet, sure why not. Troubled psychotherapist, what a cliche. Expat, been there and done that. Lyrically written soul searching memoir, that's nice. But a blind woman who paints skillfully (usually acrylic on canvas), now that's amazing. And when you pile all this on just one person it is impressive, leaving one with the feeling it is only the tip of the iceberg of a life exquisitely lived. It is enough to read Fred Rozendal's foreword or Joe Montoya's plug on back cover to draw this conclusion. Book includes poems and several color plates of her paintings. The interior and binding are in as new condition but the covers are heavily scuffed and rubbed. 146 pages.

Little, Brown, and Company, 1879. Hardcover. Good/No DJ. Ninth edition. Revised and brought down to date." Page edges browned and foxed; extensive foxing of front endpapers, especially frontispiece and facing title page (despite protective rice paper transparency) and again on the map facing first page of chapter one - fewer than ten pages are foxed but it is disheartening that it includes two sets of illustrations. There are 150 engravings in all. There is a three inch tear to the foldout map where it is attached to the page. On the verso of the front board is a former owner's bookplate. On the third front endpaper there is a 1886 gift inscription from Alencar Cintra to Colonel Henry B. Davenport. Binding is visibly rounded with rub marks on corners and spine tips, otherwise the beveled decorative borders and gilt lettering on green cloth boards and spine are in very good plus condition. There is a three inch split at front pastedown gutter hinge emanating from the tail.

Editions M.G.G., 1996. Soft cover. Good. 1996 edition. Light chipping of spine extremities, visible shelfwear, cocked spine, binding creases, unmarked clean text and tight binding.

Chapman & Dodd, 1922. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fair/No DJ. Binding is strong but loose, with separation gap and rounded spine. Spine is sunned and its tips frayed otherwise only light general wear to boards. Discolored endpapers (possibly newsprint shadows), text is unmarked and crisp but mildly foxed throughout with portions of the text only faintly affected, in either case perfectly legible. Trifold frontispiece panorama and 8 BW plates in very nice condition. The main reason for the low rating of this copy is that one plate (page 126) and the map (page 40) are missing. 224 pages. Quite scarce first edition.

Camille Coulet Libraire-Editeur, 1878. Hardcover. Good. Rebound in half leather with leather corners and cloth faces, original paper wraps not retained. Visibly rubbed on corners and along spine edges, chip at head of spine, both board faces still look nice. Horizontal gilt title and author on spine. 21 x 25.5 cm; 124 pages (hors-texte illustrations not included in pagination), gilt on top edges with most of the interior in fine condition but a few pages are showing early stages of foxing and the heliogravures have left shadow impressions on the facing pages. Bookplate to verso of front board. Decorative motifs and calligraphy; footnotes; complete print run of 272 numbered copies (this is number 133 sur papier de Hollande).

University of California Press, 1981. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. Though DJ is smooth and graphic elements sharp, the blue background of the dust jacket looks scuffed and fatigued, the edges are generally good with one small nick and fraying at spine tips. The book binding is not as tight as new otherwise in excellent state. Collectible.
