Descripción:
Approx. 4-1/2 x 11-1/2 feet. Banner. Sturdy cream stock hand painted in multiple colors. Worn to corners, somewhat affecting text; extensive taping to approx. 3 feet of verso; some evidence of painted corrections to recto. Good.
A massive banner mapping the Revelations according to the New Testament, possibly created for a Pentacostalist or Assembly of God revival meeting. Beginning with the Alpha and ending with the Omega, the banner encompasses the "Priesthood of Christ," "The Elders in Heaven," "The Heavenly Saints," and the Millenium, with the different aspects of each charted out. At the bottom, Death, "Hades, the Unseen World," and the "Lake of Fire" await fallen sinners.
*Please note, the first photograph shown here is a composite image -- some unevenness of tone, etc., is obvious at the edges of each sectional photograph, and is not visible on the banner itself. Photos of each section used for the composite follow the first image.

22 x 17 inches. 28 broadsides, including two duplicates. White stock printed in two additional colors. Condition varies, with some posters showing only minor wear but the majority with marginal chips, loss, and/or tears; old tape repair to verso some; significant dampstaining to three posters.
A collection of posters most likely issued during WWII, encouraging workers to use safety precautions, be efficient, work together, be responsible during off hours, and even smile at coworkers. All of the posters were illustrated by Stan Randall, an artist who studied under Norman Rockwell and worked on early gag and humor comics like "Alfy Elephant" and "Slim Pickins". Randall also did the newspaper feature "Right Around Home" for two years in the 1950s, was an assistant on "Ripley's Believe it or Not", and did numerous commercial comic strips and promotional art.
Randall's comic strip background shines clear in a series of eight posters (plus one of the duplicates) featuring two workers named Spec and Lumpy,… Leer más

7 x 11-3/4 inches. 28 leaves containing 52 b&w photographs and three blue photographs, as well as 17pp of holograph poetry, written in white on the black leaves, and two hand-painted color illustrations. Black hardcover post-bound album stamped in gilt. A few photos starting to come loose, else fine. Very Good or better.
An exquisite photograph album about the travels through Kashmir of one man and two women -- all white, possibly British, inscribed only to "Auntie Gillmore" -- filled with vernacular photographs of the countryside and local people. Nearly all of the photographs are captioned, and the three blue photos appear to be made after the method devised by Frank A. Perrett to photograph volcanoes in the early 1900s, rather than being cyanotypes.
The trio's journey is narrated in rhymed poetry written by the man of the group, as revealed on the last page: "The author of the photographs, / And also of the paragraphs, / Is standing on the Kamri Pass, / Complete with alpenstock and glass. / He… Leer más

8-1/4 x 11 inches. 60pp, recto only. Burgundy cloth photo album with gilt title and ornament stamped to spine, brown paper leaves reinforced with cloth at the gutter. 55 b&w photographs + 6 cyanotypes, 3-1/2 x 5-1/2 inches each; holograph text in verse, in Spanish. All but two photos are pasted in one per page; two additional photographs are laid in, one a duplicate possibly removed from another album, and one on a loose leaf of black construction paper and seemingly unrelated to the text. Light wear to spine ends and corners; front hinge gently split; light dampstaining to edge of front endpaper; text of one page smeared from contact with moisture, although there is no damp-staining and the text is still readable.
An original proto-fotonovella, relating in dramatic fashion the tale of four young couples who fall in love despite opposition from their guardians -- who, it turns out, are themselves a pair of star-crossed lovers who fell in love during an unnamed 19th-century war in the United States… Leer más

Descripción:
8 x 34 inches. B&w photograph, with photographer's name in the plate in the lower right corner. Rolled, with a slight crease to the left edge and a small corner crease to the right edge; light soiling to verso.
A large panoramic photograph of an unnamed chicken farm, probably in Petaluma or Penngrove, California, given Hanasono Studio's San Francisco location. Although there is nothing in the photo itself to indicate the farm was owned by Japanese Americans, it is possible, as Hanasono Studio was owned and operated by Japanese Americans George and Mabel Hanasono. George was heavily involved in the Bay Area Japanese American community, and was one of the partners in the restaurant Nisei Grill, on Post Street in San Francisco.
We find no records of this photograph in OCLC, and locate only a handful of any photographs by Hanasono Studio in online records, all related to the Japanese American community.

3-1/2 x 7-1/2 inches. Recto only: [1],viii,40pp, including inside rear cover. White wrappers printed in red and black. B&w illustrations. Tiny scuff/indent to front wrapper, slightly affecting red overlay of symbol; tiny stain to foot of text block, very slightly edging over onto lower margin of a few leaves.
Háy's rare second book, published as samizdat in her native Hungary in the early 1980s and with an introduction by Hungarian psychologist Ferenc Mérei. Now an internationally renowned experimental artist and filmmaker, Háy was considered a subversive during the Communist era, and faced persecution for her work. She emigrated to London in 1985 with her partner and fellow dissident György Krassó, who here translates the introduction into English.
The book consists of Háy's b&w drawings of the male and female sex symbols, playfully arranged to suggest different meanings about the interplay between the two sexes.
OCLC locates 5 copies, only two of which are in the U.S., at the Met and the Getty.

Mounting board 11 x 23 inches; photogram 8 x 20 inches. Large b&w photogram mounted on cream cardstock. Damp staining to photogram edges near center and left side; mounting board stained, damp stained, and darkened, with scraps of paper stuck to side margins and dark paint along sides of photogram -- presumably due to the image having been framed at one point.
A scarce "fern leaf motto" photogram by Anna K[uhn?] Weaver (1848-?), celebrating the American centennial and praising God for it -- and, perhaps, referring to American manifest destiny.
Weaver was a Quaker from Salem, Ohio, who used her photography work to employ numerous women as well as to fund her own missionary work in Bogata, Columbia. Although she initially created the photogram religious mottos for herself sometime in or around 1874, their unexpected success led her to found an establishment in her hometown dedicated to their production. According to an article in The New Century for Women (Philadelphia: Women's Centennial Committee,… Leer más

Descripción:
London: Printed for Longman, Hurst, Rees and Orme; Printed by J. Dewick , 1810. Good. 14 cm. iv,47,[1]pp. Self wrappers (or lacking wrappers?), resewn using new holes. Wrappers somewhat grubby and stained, with ownership signature interspersed with title; loss to corner of one leaf, not affecting text; occasional pencil lines to margins. A published extract from Robert Walsh’s A Letter on the Genius and Dispositions of the French Government, which unfavorably compared France’s mode of taxation with Britain’s. Walsh was an ardent Federalist and editor of the American Review of History and Politics; his Letter didn’t go over so well in America, but was (unsurprisingly) quite a hit in England — the editor of The Edinburgh Review reportedly exclaimed after reading it, “We must all learn to love Americans, if they send us many such pamphlets”.
