An early and important description of Canada by Surveyor General Joseph Bouchette who travelled extensively throughout Upper and Lower Canada to produce the most accurate topographical work of the era. The city plans of Bytown, Guelph, Goderich and York are one of the earliest maps available for these cities.

A very good map of Toronto extending from Dufferin Ave. in the west to Queen Street East just east of the Don River. Shows Railway tracks, public buildings including "emigrant sheds", race tracks etc. The "new gaol" ie the Don Jail is shown, having opened in 1864 and is placed just south of the "House of industry" – a charitable institution for the "deserving poor". A closer look reveals all sorts of interesting social historical details of the time.

Antwerp: Published in "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum",, c. 1606. Copperplate engraving. Old colour, some darkening along c/f otherwise very good.. 14" x 19-1/2. Based on Gastaldi's double sheet map. Shows Romania, Bulgaria and western Turkey. Impressive oversized cartouche. Ortelius was one of the great Flemish cartographers of the 16th Century and produced what is considered to be the first modern world atlas. Van den Broecke, 159,

Offsetting else very good. A pair of very good sea charts the left hand side showing the island of Zante, the tip of Cephalonia and Morea. The right hand chart shows Morea, the Island of Serigo and the tip of Candia (Crete)

A very detailed map of Ukraine, Russia, Crimea and countries surrounding the Black Sea during the Russian-Turkish war 1736-39. Historical notes indicating where archaeological remains relating to Alexander the Great are indicated as well as topographical and cultural observations.

[c. 1612 or later]. 13-1/2" x 19"- 34.2 x 48.2 cm. Copper engraved map with original hand colouring. Abrasion to lower c/f on neatline ,some oxidizaton to old colour but generally v. good Latin text verso. A good map of the southern Netherlands including Flanders. Rotterdam, Delft, Bergen,Breda and Antwerp are some of the larger cities noted.

A highly detailed and decorative map of Europe by Johann Matthias Haas and published by Homann Heirs. A large and elaborate cartouche upper left. The "stereographic projection" shows Europe depicted on a plane, rather than spherical, thus disorting distances.

Illustrated with 20 hand coloured engravings by John Leech and numerous text illustrations. half red morocco and marbled boards, gilt floral decorated spine panels, raised bands, a.e.g. , original front wrap bound in. A lovely set with only minor rubbing to lower edge and front wrap.

Lugdunum, Batavorum: Samuelem Luchtmans,1748. Illustrated with folding map. Thick 8vo, full calf, upper cover detached, blindstamp and ink notation to titlepage, part 2 titlepage misbound, some staining along foredges, otherwise very good.. BMC, Vol 17, p. 172; For a similar map see the Samourka Map Collection #A9109 (cartouche is different). Mela was an early Roman geographer originally from Spain. He theorized that the world was divided into five parts, of which only two were habitable. The map is particularly odd showing an oversized Indian subcontinent and a much widened Africa. Below Africa is a very large land mass. Mela's De Situ Orbis was originally published in 1471 and saw many subsequent editions published.
