First American edition, first state with a bowing hobbit on the title page, and Chapter VII mistakenly titled Chapter VI. Bound in publisher's original buff cloth (slight staining) stamped in blue and red; lacking the dust jacket. Good + with light foxing to cloth and loosening on the interior spine, corners rubbed; former owner labels. More photos available upon request.

The volume features black & white illustrations by Jospeh Schindelman .This volume shows very little sign of age/wear except with tears and chips to the dust jacket and very slight discoloration on the pages. Side and lower edges are untrimmed. Dust jacket is lightly soiled and sunned to degrees, heavier on the folds. Additional photos upon request.

Number 900 of 1000 numbered, signed copies. Signed by Maugham and Sutherland. The only damage is to the title location on the spine which is visible in the photos.

4to.Illustrated. viii, 62 + plates, pp. Publisher's original gilt-decorated green cloth. Boards spotted & marked. Foxing to prelims. With colour front is and 49 further tipped-in colour plates by Arthur Rackham. Binding is worn, with fraying to spine. Some spotting to the endpapers.

This is beautiful copy in the original blue cloth, lettered in gilt and black to the spine. The front board with the author's symbol in black and gilt lettering, the rear board with the publishers Windmill logo in black. The gilt and the cloth are still bright and fresh. Wear and small tears on the dust jacket.

Books is firmly bound, no issues. Dust jacket has wear on the edges, but whole and no tears. See image 2 for list of first edition verification.

One of 7650 copies printed. Original bill of sale for $350 25 years ago. Excellent, clean copy, no dust jacket. There is a shiny texture to part of the binding, no idea what it is. It is completely smooth and flat, just a different sheen. More photos available upon request

Publisher's full rose cloth, black lettering on spine and cover, color illustrated endpapers, each page illustrated with a full-color chromolithographed drawing by M. T. "Penny" Ross. Elizabeth Gordon (1866-1922) was a juvenile fantasy author whose works include Flower Children, Bird Children, and Mother Earth's Children, a delightful collection of poems about the "frolics of the fruits and vegetables." Illustrations by M.T. Ross engage children to identify a variety of plants and birds. M.T. Ross (1881-1937), who was affectionately nicknamed "Penny", was an illustrator and comic artist in the early twentieth century. He lived in Oak Park, Illinois and had his studio in downtown Chicago. He was one of the first co-workers of Walt Disney, as well as a close friend of R.F. Outcault, with whom he developed 'Buster Brown'. Both are 1st edition in Fine condition.

A sturdy, clean, first printing, covered with a basically intact jacket. The book is like new. The jacket has slight wear with some chips and discoloration. More photos available upon request.
