Alicante, Spain. Small folio size, with very brittle paper and later backstrips (with even later labels affixed). Each issue has about 8 pages. The issues were usually released on the 10th, 20th, and 30th of each month, with a few oddballs such as 28th February or 31st December. Volume 1 contains Jan. - Dec. 1883; Volume 2 covers Jan. - Dec. 1884; Volume 3 has Jan. - Dec. 1885; Volume 4 is thicker, with Jan. 1886 - Dec. 1887; Volume 5 shows Jan. 1888 - Dec. 1888; and Volume 6 runs from Dec. 1889 - Sept. 1890. A few pages are detached but present; some pages are chipped; some pages are creased; and a few pages are torn. Volumes 1 and 2 contain an index, though Volume 1's index is missing the first page. The inside front covers show evidence (glue remains) that bookplates were removed. Volume 6 contains a label naming the binder (Wm. E. Stockett & Co.). NY: G.P. Putnam's Sons. 1981. 411pp. This book is one of a limited edition of 750 copies, all numbered (this is #305) and signed by the author. Issued without a d.j., in black cloth inside a protective box, also clad in black cloth. The book is nearly pristine, with a few tiny brown spots on the page edges. The backstrip gilt is bright and clean; the binding is solid; the pages are unmarked. The box is solid, with a small spot on the lower cover and a small area of oddly-cut cloth. Another small area of loosening cloth on the box has been professionally repaired so well that you probably can't tell where it was. Paris. All six volumes are bound in recent red cloth. The sixth volume has a 1/2" scratch on the backstrip. One volume has a small ex-library discard stamp on the title page. These cover December 1871 - November 1872 (584 pp.); January - December 1882 (452 pp.); January - December 1885 (468 pp.); January - December 1887 (508 pp. - amusingly, it appears the publisher forgot to change the year on the January edition, so it says 1886); January - December 1888 (472 pp.); and January - December 1889 472 pp.). La Chaine d'Union commenced 1864 but was issued in at least three series.. The first volume here contains three fold-out plates, two of which are copies of hand-written letters, and the other a blueprint of the "Temple de la Reunion". 6 vol. (50808) . Very Good. Hardcover.

Milwaukee, WI. 1896. 338pp. "Protection, Help, and Assistance. Commonly Understandable Instructions for Sudden Illnesses". Very good condition for 125+ years old. The front cover gilt is very bright; the spinal gilt a bit less so. A small amount of expected shelf edge wear is visible. The book covers first aid and exercise, and there are many dozens of illustrations. Even though this book was published in the U.S., all the text is German. (50969) . Very Good. Hardcover.

Berlin: G. Reimer. 1832. 393pp. "Basics of the Lectures on Roads, Bridges, Locks, Canals, Electricity, Dikes, and Harbor Construction; held in the Royal Building Academy from 1824 to 1831". All text is in German. Marbled boards rubbed on the edges. The backstrip has been replaced and a title label pasted on (see pictures). Pages are browning, but the text is still clear. Plate I has been strengthened at the bottom margin; Plate VII strengthened at vertical margin. The 14 plates contain 146 figures. Leaf C-2 (pp. 19/20) professionally repaired with minor text loss (a small chip is missing from one word). This copy is ex.-U.S. Patent Office library. There is a U.S. Patent Office bookplate inside the front cover, and the title page contains a faded ink stamp with the library intake date (Jun. 2, 1883), as well as an embossed Patent Office stamp. London: John Churchill. 1843. (viii), i - 436pp. Ex-library from Western State Hospital, Staunton, VA. The backstrip has been replaced and a paper label affixed (complete with typo). The boards are in great shape for nearly 180 years old. The interior hinges are starting to separate, but the backstrip repair has produced a solid book. The pages are clean, clear, and unbrowned, though some leaves in the middle missed the trimming knife and are still connected at the top. A small 1/2" brown stain affects the outer edge of the first few pages. There are library and discard stamps inside the front and back covers, and glue remains inside the back cover presumably from the library checkout card pocket. (50762) . Good+. First Edition. Memorabilia of Henry George Couture from his time serving aboard U.S.S. Arkansas and U.S.S. Humphreys. Nearly 300 pages, most of which contain multiple items. This is a scrapbook kept by Couture's wife, the items tacked to leaves of complete(?) manuscript nautical scholar's record of Paul H. Tarpley. Most items are from 1934-1937. The important contents includes nearly 50 components from shipboard news, "ARKY NEWS", a mimeographed sheet. Sometimes only clips are present and sometimes complete issues. Other ship-specific items include a red, white & blue ribbon with USS ARK in gilt letters (corsage base); programs for Washington's 1935 birthday celebration and Smoker; and a Christmas 1934 celebration program. Three items relate to Puerto Rico; three items were issued in Naples (honoring Arkansas's arrival, but generic); an overlaid football schedule; a Norfolk Chamber of Commerce brochure on 1934 Practice Cruise; and a brochure on Coronation Review, 1937. Philadelphia: Harrison Hall & James Maxwell. 1822. 528, 526pp. Issued monthly, Volume 1 contains January to June, 1822, and Volume 2 contains July to December, 1822. The 12 issues each had a copperplate engraving, of which five are present. The text is complete, with expected foxing on the pages. The binding is full calf with good labels. Both volumes seem to be missing endpapers. 2 vol. (50785) . Very Good. Hardcover.

Eight catalogues, dated 1875 - 1882. Six are from Dexter Park, Chicago, IL; one from Carrollton, IL; and one from Wyoming, IL. One has detached but present wraps; one has a chipped front cover (see pictures); several have small chips on the spines. All show wear and soil from nearly 150 years, with a few light creases here and there. These catalogues are full of bovine pedigree information, often back many generations. Most of these catalogues seem unrecorded in any library. (57754) . Very Good. Paperback.

Leipzig: Oskar Leiner. 1869. 334pp. "Yearbook for the History of the Jews and of Judaism". In half-leather with marbled boards. The paper is becoming brittle, and the bottom 1.5" of the backstrip shows the remains of an old label. The hinges are showing signs of separation, but the book is in no danger of falling apart. Issued by the Institute zur Forderung der Israelitischen Literatur (Institute for the Promotion of Israelite Literature). This book is apparently Volume 4, as indicated on the title page ("Vierter Band"), and contains articles about Rabbi Tobias Cohn of Potsdam; Jewish expulsion from Bohemia in 1744; and Jewish community relations in Spain. 1885. 399pp. This Spanish-language Masonic publication ran from 1881-1885. This volume is Year 5 (1885), issues 1 - 24, each with about 16 pages, all bound together in red cloth with a later backstrip. The inner joints have been mended with book repair tape. There is residue inside the front cover where it appears a bookplate was removed, so this may be ex-private library. All the pages from start to finish have a gentle vertical crease in the center of the pages, as if the issues spent a long time folded in half before being bound together. Pages are starting to brown a bit. (50670) . Very Good. Hardcover.

Boston: Weeks, Jordan, and Co.. 1838. 424pp. Still in the original publication boards, though with a later paper binding repair (see pictures). Both covers are separating, the corners are frayed, the edges are worn, and the pages near both ends show spotting and discoloration... so, not bad for 184 years old! All the page edges are untrimmed, but the interior text pages are mostly clean and bright, with just a few brown spots here and there. (50463) . Fair. First Edition. Hardcover.

These are drawings on card stock. "The Gift" (12" x 17") is Christmas-themed and dated Dec. 24, 1982. The Donkey and Elephant drawing (14" x 10") seems to be dated "11/22", presumably 1981. The drawing of the Reagans (14" x 17.5") is dated July 31, 1981. Each work is signed by Hill and includes a gift inscription. (50509) .

Salt Lake City, UT: University of Utah Press. 1988. 188pp. D.j. is very good, with edge ruffling and wear, but no tears. The inside of the book is pristine. Leipzig: Deutsche Verlagsactiengesellschaft. 1904. 530, 480, 449pp. "Yearbooks for Folkloric Surveys and Research on the History of the Development of Gender Morality", according to internet translation. These are the first three volumes, one issued each year from 1904 - 1906. Each was evidently limited to 1000 copies. Vols. 1 & 2 have matching numbers (784), but Vol. 3 is #478. These are large quarto size, with untrimmed fore and bottom edges. The backstrip of Volume 2 has a 1/2" tear at the bottom and a 1.5" tear at the top of the front hinge. Laid in are several advertising brochures apparently for the author's other works. As these books are large and heavy, extra shipping charges will be requested ($15 for standard U.S. shipping; $30 for U.S. Priority Mail; probably much more for international). 3 vol. (50693) . Rapid City, SD. 1989. 102pp. Fifteen pages are pictures. This is the second printing (the first was in 1988). Quarto size in wraps. This is an account of the author's U.S. Naval service and his 42 months in a Japanese P.O.W. camp after capture on Corregidor during WWII. (50992) . Very Good. Paperback.
