Folder has crease on front cover, tears to inner/rear flap. Photographs have light bumping at corners, and are slightly bowed - that is the top and bottom horizontal edges do not lay exactly flat. 18 photographs with text on the rear identifying each one. Peter Smith, 1947. Reprint. Hardcover. Good. Fourteen oversize volumes and general index complete. Ex-library set rebound in red library bindings. 14 volumes and index have been rebound into 7 physical volumes, 2 per volume. Boards have some rubbing, interior has usual library stamping and marking on copyright page, etc. Volume 13 & 14 is beginning to separate at the rear and front hinges, but has not yet separated. These were reference books however, and since they never checked out of the library the contents are clean and bright overall. "Illustrated with figures and Analyses drawn from Nature by Charles Edward Faxon and Philibert and Eugene Picart." Full-page plates are intact and clean. Each volume contains index, volume 14 contains general index. "Reproduced by offset lithography, The Murray Printing Company, Cambridge, Massachusetts." III) Original brown cloth covers with moderate sheflwear, scuffing to covers. Volume II shows some water damage to front cover. Vols. II and IV have very small tears at head of spines. Vol. IV has a stain to upper corner of last 100 pages or so. Otherwise contents clean with no writing.

Both dust jackets show soiling and edgewear with chips/tears to edges.Volume I dj has 2" closed tear at bottom edge of cover. Both volumes have discoloration to bottom edge of boards. Both volumes have foxing to endpapers and scattered foxing towards edges of interior pages. Volume I published in 1957, volume II in 1959. Ribbon placeholders. Ex-library with usual stampings, plates, etc. Much wear to exteriors, contents clean and tight overall. Foxing to title page of Volume III. Each volume has rubbing and shelfwear to marbled boards. Volumes I and II have large chips missing from spine, part of Volum I spine barely attached. Volume IV has split on spine all the way down and is barely attached. Volume III has spine but top edge of spine is badly frayed. George was Treasurer of the Navy and First Lord of the Treasury, and is known for the American Stamp Act of 1765. Richard was First Lord of the Admiralty and brother-in-law to William Pitt. Volume I (494 pages) contains introductory essay, letters from1742-1762, corrigenda for volumes I-III, 32 page advertisement for works published by Murray.
