Attractively bound in half warm brown leather over tan cloth, color frontis, many additional black and white plates printed on a parchment colored background, 8.25" tall. Some expected edgewear and rubbing, some light chipping to spine head, some finger smudging to the cover cloth, good hinges, sound text block, foxing to half-title, clean pages, no names or other markings.. Hard Cover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Illustrated with 24 colored plates by Cecil Aldin. Spines moderately darkened and slight split to cloth at upper joint of volume I. General light wear to covers. One tissue guard loose but present. A very good copy of the first trade edition, complete with Aldin's magnificent color illustrations. An extra illustrated set containing, besides the unpublished plates by Buss, "Phiz" and Leech, issued with the work, the following illustrations: A complete set of duplicate etchings (proof without letters) from the original plates; two additional plates after unpublished drawings by R.W. Buss. Of the two additional Buss plates only 50 copies of each were struck off before the plates were destroyed. Original green cloth covers and spine for both volumes bound in each respectively. Original spines read "Proof" above the words "Victoria Edition" at lower edge of backstrip. Contemporary review, circa 1888, laid-down on two blank prelim pages as prefatory note. With great full color illustrations by C.E. Brock. Near Fine, small sspot near bottom of spine, tiny rubs at the corners. A quite lovely copy with the desirable Brock illustrations. . Four wide gilt ruled raised bands, gilt decorated compartments and titles in gilt to the spine. Gilt decorated board edges and inner dentelles. All edges gilt. Bound from the parts. Engraved frontispiece, vignette title and 41 plates [43 in total, as called for]. First state of engraved title page (Veller) and the two suppressed plates by R. W. Buss present (facing pages 69 and 74). All 7 Seymour plates are present as called for and the Phiz plates are in the earliest state (page numbers, without publisher's imprint). A very good copy indeed, the binding square and firm with minor wear to the extremities, small nick (without loss) to the upper left corner of the front board. Tiny retailer's label 'G.
