Original or early paperback editions uniformly custom-bound in blue leather with silver titles on the spine, with the invoice for rebinding in French and English from an unidentified Saigon bookbinder circa late 1960s. HOBBIT is stated fifth Ballantine paperback printing Dec 1965. THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING (Part I of THE LORD OF THE RINGS) is the first Ballantine paperback edition Dec 1965; TWO TOWERS (Part II) is the unauthorized Ace paperback edition; and, RETURN OF THE KING (Part III) is the first Ballantine paperback edition Dec 1965. There is an owner name in the prelims of each volume, and the leaves are toned as expected in "pulps" of this nature. The covers are NOT bound-in. The hinges of the covers are variously revealed, and the corners worn a tad. Curiously, the binder, erred in numbering the Parts of Lord of the Rings on the spine, assigning III to Hobbit and leaving Fellowship of the Ring unnumbered, instead of III. Also included a lLarge, folded map "Portion of the Grove showing Principal Roads, Trails and Club Structures with a List of the Camps and Camp members and Key to Camp Locations" for the 1954 mid-summer encampment. Double sides, member list on one side, map on the other. folded into 12 panels, unfolded measures 18.5 x 24". Near fine condition. Also included are two pieces of Bohemian Grove letterhead, printed in brown, with flying owl.

Priced as a lot.

Near Fine. 12 volume set, complete, uniformly bound in autumn leaf leather, with identical gilt front and rear covers, ruled dentelles, more gilt to spine, five raised bands, gte, sides untrimmed. Binding unsigned. Limited to 130 sets for subscribers only, this set numbered 177 in all volumes. Volume 1 notes that this set was printed for A. Jaekel, with his name artistically painted in water color on the limitation page. Frontispieces are mezzotints by S. Arlent-Edwards, with printed tissue guards, in each volume, 62 plates in all. Near fine set, untrimmed sides a bit tanned/ browned. Internals fine. Covers quite nice, a few very minor abrasions here and there.

Thank you for everything JR" Rivers has signed the inscription with a conjoined "JR" and her own sketch of a pair of legs wearing high platform shoes with the initials "MB" (for Manolo Blahnik) on their soles. Dustjacket spine a bit faded, otherwise near fine all around.

Box a wee dusty on the outside, the rest fine.

Paris: Presses de la Cite, 1970. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good +. Presumed first edition of a book of sayings composed by French actor and singer Maurice Chevalier. Copy owned by the legendary Marlene Dietrich, inscribed to her by Chevalier on the half title: "Pout toi - Merveilleuse Marlinou que ne sont pour le reste de ma que tendres et admirations a ton sujet". Marlinou is his affectionate nickname for Marlene and the inscription conveys the affection he had for her. Roughly translated to English: "For you. the marvelous Marlene who for the rest of my life gets nothing but tenderness and admiration as far as your concerned". Indeed, Dietrich and Chevalier were dear friends, both Europeans whose international stardom extended to and from Hollywood. Her correspondence with Chevalier - along with many other international luminaries- is part of The Marlene Dietrich Collection at theStiftung Deutsche Kinemathek in Germany. Book near fine.
