1897. Early days in Edgefield County, South Carolina, are explored through a mixture of historical events and colorful tales in this reprint of History of Edgefield County from the Earliest Settlements to 1897 by John A. Chapman, originally published in 1897. The 3-color cover is printed on 80# card stock and protected with a vinyl sheet. The booklet, printed on 60# opaque paper, contains 260 pages. However, because we use a 2-up format on 8 1/2" x 11" paper, it has the equivalent of over 520 pages from the original book. One small section was missing from our source book, involving parts of two original pages. 1879. Early days in Tama County, IA, are recalled through colorful tales and factual data in this new 139-page booklet, a reprint of the hard-to-find 1879 book: History of Tama County Iowa, Its Cities, Towns and Villages with Early Reminiscences, Personal Incidents and Anecdotes, and a Complete Business Directory of the County by Samuel D. Chapman. We opted for a shorter title: History of Tama County, Iowa USA. Because of the larger paper our booklet has fewer pages than the original book, but still includes all of the information. This spiral-bound booklet is printed on 11" x 8.5" 60# bond paper. The tri-color cover is on 80# card stock, with the front protected by a vinyl sheet. 1892. Years before the first shot was fired at Fort Sumner, Ohio was playing a leading role in the drama that in retrospect seems to have been inevitable. Ohio historian Henry Howe, traveled the state before and after the war, in 1846 and again in 1886, and from his vivid first-hand accounts we have gleaned tales of fugitive slaves, underground railroads, race riots and abolitionists, in and out of public office. To this we have added some first hand accounts of Ohio's Underground Railroad from Levi Coffin. 1895. A history of Douglas County KS, may sound rather ho-hum -- until you learn that "Lawrence" is the County Seat. Lawrence, Kansas -- suddenly images of old Western films and Quantrill's Raiders flash across the mind. Similar images also flash across the pages of this 269-page book, reproduced from Richard Cordley's 1895 first hand account A History of Lawrence, Kansas from the First Settlement to the Close of the Rebellion. Amazingly detailed and well-written, the book is a rich source of data for Civil War buffs, genealogical info for those with Douglas County ties, and insights into American history in general and Kansas history in particular. This new spiral bound book is printed on 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 60# bond paper with the front cover protected with a vinyl sheet. Since the original book was darkened with age the print is a little light.
