PLEASE SEE PHOTOS. This is the 4 volume set released 1939 after the Deluxe signed set. This one has the signed bookplate of KROCH'S BOOKSTORE CHICAGO by Carl Sandburg. This is one of the finest collections available, matching set. Very little rubbing or wear.

Included with this set is the one-volume copy of The Prairie Years which is also handsigned by Carl Sandburg. It has some wear top of the spine area but makes a nice addition to complete it.

New York: Henry Holt, 1918. 2nd state with 3 missing and 1.35 for Chicago Poems, mild foxing inside front covers outlined by dj ends. . DJ married to this book is a 1923 dustjacket, lightly soiled and missing about 2 inches of the top spine(taking out the title, and light chipping to corners,now preserved in mylar. BOOK CONDITION:Tan paper boards with green lettering,light shelfwear(very light),light bumping to the edges(very light).former owners signature 1st leaf and she signed the front of the dj at the top. Otherwise a super nice copy.Carl Sandburg handsigned on the title page with signature of author only in fountain ink.. Signed by Author. 2nd State. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Good+. While I was rechecking this book I was using a fluorescent bulb and it made the covers/lettering look green, in regular light it is tan/brown.

Pulitzer Winning non-fiction about Abraham Lincoln, his early years. These are the 2 volumns before the War Years. Red cloth covers,gold lettering inside black boxes. Only defect is that they have very minor shelfwear on the extreme edges,unread tightness. No DJ as issued.

Chicago: Pellegrini Cudahy, 1947 dj:light soiling and minor shelfwear..book: no real defects to see,light foxing. inscribed on the 1st leaf and signed by author.. Signed by Author. First Edition. Cloth. Very Good+/Very Good+.

A book collection observation: unless a book's content has been changed 10% or more, or if an introduction has changed(like added by someone else), the edition stays the same, so saying the book is a first edition does not say when it was acturally printed, but this publisher has a 2 letter code. The code for this book F-T translated to May-1970 making it a LATER PRINTING/unknown printing. this DJ: is a second state with 1969 Pulitzer Prize Novel on the inside flap. Signed by Author by way of laying inside a signed leaf from another of his books,this one is the 1st title page that remained the same in House Made of Dawn, but it is inscribed to Caroline which can be cut down by new owner and affixed anyway you choose.BOOK: is unread tightness,light lean,a touch of fading to the very edges,no markings,spine ends are Bruised not bumped,corners square. DJ: is 2nd state as discussed already,there are a few small tears,light browning to the edges,price intact,light scratches.

Blue paper boards with gold lettering, stated first edition, signed signature only on the 2nd blank leaf, really nice signature could easily used for a another of his books. Bruised spine ends. DJ has a sticker on front "Signed Copy". Thicker page so it is a tipped in signature. Reason Near Fine is in case I miss something.

Autograph sticker on the front cover, signed on the half-title page(signature only). Appears unread and very clean and square, more like NF than VG+, but I did not open it too wide to sneak a peek.

There is a remainer mark across top page ends and a dot bottom. Defects include a stupid stamp 1st leaf black ink(store) and a 1.15 in red ink. Inscribed by Author, Main Title Page, "To Heather- My First Novel...and his large Signature" isn't that cool. There is wear, bent top corner. Factory defect causing the book to have a thumb cease across the back cover, only notice it holding it. It may have been read once. Rubbing to the ends of the covers. Part of a collection search authors name for the rest.

Beige-colored Bookcloth with Black lettering and has foxing from years of use(hand dirt and oils). The spine ends are fraying just on the tips, with reinforcement(hard to do on such a small book) on the top more than the bottom, light trim. The front leaf has 2 photos glued in without other damage. With its cheap paper, there is minor age-toning, not too fragile, and still held together tightly. The book is a little brighter than photos show because of an alcohol rub down(no damage done because alcohol evaporates quickly, I was dying to try it out).
