Tegner was reknowned for his work depicting these fairy tales. Two volumes. Quarto, original richly tooled half straight-grained morocco, spines gilt with labels, marbled boards and edges, ornamental endpapers, the bindings are a bit scuffed, internally quite fine, a lovely set.

Paris: Verve, Rue Ferou, 1939. First Edition. This issue includes lithograph images of 'The Dance' by Henri Matisse and 'The Garden of Allah' by Andre Derain. This copy is in a remarkable hardcover leather binding with inlaid green and yellow leather spelling 'Verve' on the front board. The back board features the same design in relief with the lettering and pattern laid under the outer black leather cover. The original colour lithograph wrappers have been retained and now form the paste-down endpapers of the book. The previous owner and binder, one Richard Griffin of Sydney New South Wales, has written an honest and endearing explanation of his project on the rear blank free endpaper: 'This is the first leather binding I ever attempted. Having to give up the grog left me with long lucid evenings to be filled instead." A unique and remarkable binding production. Large quarto, lithograph and heliotype plates throughout, black leather binding with fitted slipcase, this copy is in very good condition.

Jocularly claims to include: notes on the Genera Synecdoche, Oxymoron and Anacoluthon; an Account of the Reaction of Caged Parrots to the Affectations of the Human Voice; Land Birds of the Sargasso Sea; notes on the Origin of the Habit of ‘Wasping' in the Hoatzin and Yaffle; variation in Clutch Size in the Genus Apteryx; et cetera. Oblong octavo, illustrated wrappers, 2 volumes, no. 1 (Jan. 1949) - no. 2 (Mar. 1952) 24 pages + 28 pages, near fine.

Yokohama: The Yokohama Chamber of Commerce and Industry, 1938. Rare prewar exhibition catalogue of Japanese export goods from the Yokohama Commercial & Industrial Museum. Includes a vast range of Japanese products: raw materials sourced from the ever-increasing Manchurian territories through to highly finished commodities of Japanese manufacture. Large octavo, 4 colour plates including colour woodcuts tipped-in, slight creases to front pages otherwise a very good copy bound in original decorated cloth boards, gilt.

Presentation copy from the author to renowned Australian woodblock artist, Thea Proctor: "May you enjoy reading this book about my wanderings in England, even as I loved to write about them." Bound in original decorated cloth, author's 145mm x 200mm, 278 pp, profusely illustrated; occasional foxing otherwise a very good copy.

Melbourne: Palace Theatre, 1922. First Edition. A memento of the first theatrical production to run for two hundred consecutive performances in Melbourne. Souvenir programme: Thursday, October 5th, 1922. Ada Reeve (3 March 1874 - 5 October 1966) was born in London, beginning her career on the stage and screen when she was only four years old. Ten years later, after a serious decline in the health of her father, Charles Reeves née Samuel Isaacs, the family relied upon Ada for financial support. Life in the music hall gave way to a life of international acclaim. An extraordinary woman, the talent of Ada Reeve saw her in near continuous employment for almost eighty years. Quarto, illustrated paper wrappers bound with the original tie, 18 pages, creatively illustrated with photographs (sometimes set against a backdrop of line drawings) throughout, slight marking, a very good copy.

Publications Willy Fischer, 1932. First Edition. Ludo, a comedy in three acts by the renowned French journalist, novelist and playwright, Pierre Scize (pseudonym for Michel Joseph Piot, 1894 -1956). Scize was hit by a shell in the first months of WWI, losing his arm. With all that remained of him, Scize started to write. He wrote for L'Œuvre, Bonsoir, Paris-Journal, Canard Enchaine, La Figaro and was a member of one of the first ciné-clubs, Ricciotto Canudo's CASA, becoming a film critic for Candide and Paris Soir. Small octavo, illustrated paper wrappers, 24 pages, photographically illustrated with art deco advertisements and portraits of the company in black & white throughout, near fine. Rare.

Paris: Librarie des Amateurs, 1901. First edition thus. MONCHAU, Emile. Limited edition of 1000 copies, of which this is number 12. Illustrations by Emile Monchau. A delightful period piece in Art Noveau style with ravishing floral border decorations to every page. Edition of 1000 copies. Small quarto, original illustrated wrappers, floral ornament throughout, lower spine end shows some wear; loose in wrappers, lower spine end shows some wear and has been papered over, small mild water mark affects the last leaf, a very good and attractive copy.

Sydney: Ure Smith, 1951. First Edition. Catalogue for the exhibition organised by Lawrence Thomas. Perhaps most interesting for its mixture of indigenous and non-indigenous artists. Small octavo, decorated wrappers, catalogue with plates in colour and black & white, near fine.

George Redway: London, 1896. THOMPSON, Hugh. Reprinted from the original edition of 1735, with the addition of a memoir of the author by R. Farquharson Sharp. The spine and cover boards have been beautifully illustrated in gold and Thompson's delightful vignettes appear throughout. Small quarto, original gilt decorated cloth, delightful illustrations and vignettes by Hugh Thompson throughout, a very good copy.

The first of Reade's fictional prose works, a novel of manners based on his own play 'Masks and Faces' (1852), telling the story of the eighteenth-century actor Margaret Woffington. Tokyo: Sanseido and Company, 1936. Carefully planned study of Japanese art demonstrating the stylistic changes through time of painting, bronze and wood sculpture, metalwork, textiles, ceramics, lacquer, architecture etcetera. The book is divided into two parts; the first providing a detailed overview of the history of Japanese art practices, the second acting as a guide to specific works and temples in existence at the time of publication. Noritake Tsuda was a lecturer in Fine Arts at New York University. Octavo, 525pp, 10 plates in full colour and 345 additional black & white reproductions; publishers red cloth, a near-fine copy.

Melbourne: Pinacotheca Gallery, 1982. Scarce art market value resource featuring a large number of works now in private collections. Printed folded sheet forming a four page price list. Not illustrated.

London: Ward, Lock and Company, 1904. A. J. Johnson. This classic work of Australian juvenile literature remains eternally popular. It is highly unusual to find early issues such as this one in such an excellent state of preservation. The decorated cloth binding remains bright and fresh as the gilt ornament is not rubbed or dulled. Octavo, original gilt decorated blue cloth, black & white frontispiece and plates. A fine copy.
