Ex-Lib but read on, Paper from the inside flaps of the Brodart, not the DJ, 2436 stamp 1st leaf and paper residue from ID plate, no markings usually with these books. The rear has paper removed inside the pastedown and paper-like front flap from Brodart, not DJ. there is sun fading to the edges and bruising to spine ends and wear bottom, stamp LIBRARY COPY on bottom page ends and an 8-7 top edge. DJ has minor rubbing only because it was protected in Brodart.

Please see photos. 1st leaf has the long inscription/Signature/Place and Date. Near fine, has brusied spine ends because no DJ, and minor rubbing to extreme edges a marker can fix.
One by One Edition, copyright has 1922, title page has 1937 and the inscription has June 1938 so no idea what printing.

UN-NUMBERED OF 1000, 1900 ON MAIN TITLE PAGE, BOOK IS CRACKED COMPLETELY FRONT AND REAR INSIDE COVERS, WITH 2 PAGES DETACHED AT BOTH, BUT COMPLETE BOOK, WITH WEAR. STICKER INSIDE THE FRONT COVER WITH SIGNATURE ONLY. 2ND STATE WITH CORN UPSIDE DOWN. SHOULD BE INCLUDED WITH A COLLECTION, BUT STILL AVAILABLE HERE.

2ND ISSUE WITH CORNSTALK UPSIDE DOWN, BOOK IS SHOWING WEBBING COMING APART FRONT AND BACK , IS COMPLETE. THE INSIDE COVER HAS A STICKER ANNOUNCING THIS IS AUTHOR'S AUTOGRAPH EDITION AND NUMBER 410 OF A THOUSAND. TEXT BLOCK IS VERY TIGHT, WEAR TO THE EDGES BUT BETTER THAN MOST OF THIS ISSUE. Basically, it is the Pulitzer Prize Edition and scarce Dustjackets only about 5 total and none on 1944(4 books) with the 1945 fetching top dollar and the 1973? even more(why). This DJ has chipping, almost separated flaps, and tears on all the folds. But better than some I have seen. I will redo the Brodart and use the good stuff to help save what is left. A 1945 with no mention of DJ for $85, then one that is worst with no mention of DJ $553.98.. I will list at ?? for now.

Business size card "With the Compliments of the Author, SIMON&SCHUSTER " 9 LINES INSCRIPTION BY THE AUTHOR ending Best, Bob, March 31, 1978. I can't read to much of his handwriting but it starts Dear Max no other writing and the book is unread tightness and square and sharp corners. A light bruising to spine ends"minor" 1 quarter beige cloth and brown paper boards,black lettering, a little age toned page ends. DJ has a med soiling I believe cleanable but not by me. Minor chipping to edges with the bottom has very small tears and shelf wear also minor. Price intact, $9.95, age toning on the book ends.

Blue cloth with gold lettering, with wear fraying to the spine ends. A stain bottom corner and made it inside to some of the pages. The signature is on a special Kroch's Bookstores bookplate, not inscribed and could be removed and used elsewhere.

1922 ON MAIN TITLE AND 1922 FOR THE DOUBLEDAY PRINTING. iT WAS PRINTED IN SERVERAL OTHER MEDIA. INSCRIBED AND DATED NEW YORK 1922 AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR ON THE FIRST LEAF,WEBBING SHOWING THERE,LIGHT BROWNING TO THE PAGES AND END OF PAGES,THERE IS WEAR AT THE SPINE ENDS,CORNERS,CHIPPED AT THE TOP SPINE,STILL TIGHT AND SQUARE AND COMPLETE.

This is the Advance Reading Copy paperback stated in the top corner on the front cover. stated 1st edition with the 1 in printline, The only defects are spine looks wrinkled but it appears to have never been read, light browning the page ends.

Creme(?) color, book has a light line across the text on the bottom where it came into something, very minor shelfwear, The DJ has minor shelfwear hard to notice in Brodart. Nice addition to any Pulitzer Prize collection.

Black cloth, gold lettering, a little missing on the Doubleday bottom spine, not much. Minor foxing(?) to top edge. Book has a very slight smudge bottom edge. Book is very clean no markings, very tight(unread) and square. The DJ is price intact, but has chipping along the edges main ones are bottom spine and top front near the spine(also a tear/wrinkles), check refreshed photos for details, and a wear/tear/wrinkles(near botton spine to the rear cover) in Brodart to preserve it now, still looks nice. . Unknown Printing but early edition code on last page is H27. Same year as the first 1966 on title page.

SIGNED ON THE MAIN TITLE PAGE IN BLACK FOUNTAIN PEN, I BELIEVE THIS TO BE THE 1ST TRADE EDITION, NOT STATED BY 1921 TITLE PAGE AND MATCHING COPYRIGHT.PREVIOUS OWNERS NAME INSIDE FRT COVER,WEAK HINGE AT 1ST TITLE PAGE BUT NOT BROKEN,TOUCH OF FOXING,WEBBING SHOWING INSIDE REAR COVER AND ONLY THING HOLDING.COVER SOILED,FRAYED SPINE ENDS.
