Very rare and precious manual dedication by Stein to the famous French entrepreneur, patron of modern art and modernist tapestry, Marie Cuttoli (1879-1973). First edition. Frontispiece portrait of Stein by Christian Bérard. Translation and preface by Georges Hugnet. Text in French. Private half calf with marbled boards and endpapers with bound original cover. Gilded top edge.
One of 85 numbered copies sur Vergé Bouffant from the deluxe edition (our copy number 95) with the portrait frontispiece by Christian Bérard (a heliogravure based on a painted-over photo-portrait) and signed by both Stein and Bérard on the limitation page. Total edition of 302. The present edition represents the first publication of Stein's work in a language other than English, and was also one of the first works published by Éditions de la Montagne (founded by Hugnet in the same year).
