"Born in Quesnel, British Columbia, Noel G. Duclos was the fifth son of the pioneer family of George Duclos. He went through public school in Quesnel, then took his first year university in Vancouver. After getting his teaching certificate, Noel's first school was in Tibbles Lake, west of Quesnel. The third year he had his brother, Art, attend to make up the necessary eighth pupil. He also had Art call him Mr. Duclos. Ned's salary was $75 a month at the time. He taught at Rose Lake, near Likely, at Barkerville in 1925-26, and South Fort George where he met his future wife, Blanche Cause. They were married in Prince George in 1929. Later teaching positions took them to Grinrod, Revelstoke, and Kamloops. They retired to Victoria at the end of Noel's more than 40 year teaching career. "Little Pagurus--"Pagoo" for short--came from an egg the size of a pencil dot. He drifted on the surface of the sea like a tiny fleck of foam, yet he would become a two-fisted Hermit Crab--if luck was with him. Under water, Pagoo's glassy body was almost invisible. His large eyes looked like eyes, but the rest of him was a fuzzy blur because as yet he had no claws or legs. Pagoo found bits of floating food small enouth to eat, and he grew. He molted by kicking off his plastic armor, as do his crustacean relatives such as Shrimps and Lobsters. Each molting found him a little larger, with a few more improvements added. Looking more like a Hermit Crab, at last he could swim no longer. He settled to the bottom of a tide pool near shore, and walked with legs. But now his armor covered only part of him. A collection of 4 books in one by Michel Gagne: "A Search for Meaning: The Story of Rex"; "The Mystery of He"; "The Great Shadow Migration", and "The Bird, the Spider and the Octopus". First Collected Edition. Issued without d.j. INSCRIBED "To Jason & Family" but that could be erased. You would still have the original drawing and Michel's signature.

The guesswork for this brochure seems to be in the 1930's, but it's entirely possible that it was distributed more than once or twice. There are 2 maps: one full-page showing the P.L.M. (Paris-Lyon-Mediterranee Railway system); and a 1-1/2 x 6" of "The Route Des Alpes et Du Jura", from Evian in the north (near Geneva) down to Nice on the Mediterranean. Glossy stock with the Arch de Triumph on the Front and a Touring Car in the Alps on the rear. Over 30 b/w photos as well.
From page 1: "The Paris-Lyon-Mediterrnaee Railway System, usually designated by the three letters P.L.M., is one of the greatest in the world. It stretches over nearly a quarter of France, and, including its Algerian Lines, measures nearly 10,000 kilometers." The Gare de Lyon in Paris was a major hub of the PLM.

'Park Prisoners' tells the startling and little-known history of the labour camps that once existed in Canada's mountain and prairie national parks. Between 1915 and 1946, some ten thousand men were put to work in western Canada's national parks. They were the country's unwanted--unskilled foreign workers, the jobless and the homeless, conscientious objectors, perceived enemies of the state, and prisoners of war. These men had committed no crimes, but because of war or depression, they were seen as a possible threat to public order and a potential source of civil unrest. The Canadian government consequently sent them to the parks--world-renowed places such as Banff, Jasper, and Yoho--where they were held under duress in isolated work camps for months, sometimes years. Here is the comprehensive, illustrated history of the national park labour camp story."

"This story of one little elephant's resilience in the face of adversity is sure to have universal appeal." "It was during a visit to Africa that Ruth met Paseka, the little orphan elephant, and was inspired to share Paseka's story with children." Paseka was lucky and was adopted by a small herd of elephants. About half the pages have some minor rippling along the top couple of inches but no staining or odor.
The accompaning d.j. has the same front and back illustrations of the book itself. Some minor creasing of rear of jacket, plus a 1" tape repair at the bottom of the spine.
Also added to the book is a 4-page section telling Paseka's story in Kiswahili.
SIGNED on the front endpaper by both Author and Artist without inscription.

SIGNED by author/artist on title page. 1st Edition. Dust-jacket has the same illustration on front as the book itself. Also, the d.j. has a sticker with the info "Mom's Choice Awards Honoring Excellence". A tender story of a dog just named Big Puppy, who needed not one, but two heart operations, but did recover and was able to run and play once more with his best doggie friend Mossy.

Published in conjunction with "Patrick Faigehbaum", an exhibition organized by the Vancouver Art Gallery and presented from March 9 to June 2, 2013 in Vancouver. INSCRIBED by Patrick Faigehbaum on the half-title page 13 03 2013, Vancouver.

Great Dane Pinkerton wants to adopt his own "penguin pup" in this hilarious adventure for the irrepressible Great Dane and his patient family. A third printing of this wonderful story, but flamboyantly INSCRIBED by Steven Kellogg to "Sophie from Pinkerton (friendly drawing of Pinkerton's face and ears) and signature of author/artist Steven Kellogg on front endpaper.

A wonderful gift book. A Mint copy in shrinkwrap. Dark Grey leather with gilt title and author on spine, gilt numbers and letters on front and back. Printed on archival paper with gilded edges. The endpapers are of moire fabric with a silk ribbon page marker.

Collection Signatures. Claude Picher fixed his studio in the Gaspe Peninsula more than 20 years ago. He has endeavoured to perpetuate its wild and savage beauty. By an irrevocable deed he signed in September 1991, he has donated to the city of Matane a permanent collection of 50 paintings depicting the many colours of his immortal Gaspe. He further undertook to give the city of Matane another collection of fifty paintings that will form a travelling exhibition. The city of Matane established the Fondation Claude Picher Inc. in November 1991 to help preserve this exceptional heritage in the public domain for all time.

Pickle the pony and Patch the pup were the best of friends who played together every day. But, it was always Patch who decided what they would do. After a few times of getting into trouble (including going into the farm kitchen after freshly picked apples), then it was time for Pickle to lead the way.
