Paperback trade, very good condition, stapled pamphlet, black & white & colour text-photos & drawings, light crease rear cover. 35 pp. This booklet by Tom Lockley is about the flight of the Vickers Vimy from Britain to Australia by Australians Ross and Keith Smith, Jim Bennett and Wally Shiers, who took off from Hounslow airfield on 12 November 1919 and 28 days later landed in Darwin after an amazing flight. They won the air race sponsored by the Australian Government. The airmen had hoped to fly from Darwin to Sydney in five days, leaving Darwin on 13 December 1919. They would then fly on to Adelaide. However, they were delayed by mechanical failures and by en route celebrations, and they reached Sydney in 64 days. They reached Adelaide another 38 days later. This booklet (pamphlet) gives a basic summary of their celebratory flight in Australia.

The authors have used long-lost radio messages, and spent 25 years researching her disappearance of the aviator over the Pacific Ocean during her around the world flight in 1937. This book simultaneously reveals the authors findings, and brings to life the primitive conditions under which earlier aviators flew. (Copyright 1999, this edition 2009.).

He used photos, journal articles and an unreliable textbook as his guides. David Crotty provides the full story of his flying career and his life has now been published for the first time. From his early years as a Melbourne schoolboy to his heroic activities as a pilot on the Western Front in WW1, his life is a story of ingenuity and independence.

The memorable raids include one on a bridge over the River Meuse (the longest night flight on a target at that time, some 159 miles behind enemy lines), and a dramatic raid in April 1918 on Zeebruge.

Jack was on the second landing in the Second Division at Gallipoli. He was a keen pilot and one of the first staff members with Qantas in the 1920s. Lesley Hazlitt met Jack when she turned 47, and he was 74. They spent more than 21 happy years together. Lesley tells his amazing story. (A book in the 'Fabric of a Nation' series.).

The author gives original insights into this legendary U.S. Air Force leader. During WW2 he served in Burma. He supplied West Berlin with food and supplies to survive the Soviet blockade (1948 - 1949) and its hold over two million Berliners. The airlift demonstrated the unexpected capacity of air transport in a postwar world.
