Very scarce twentieth century Puck. A bright, clean complete copy in sixteen pages without owners' names or other markings.

One of 260 copies printed for the Dunlap Society. Paper wraps with design and text. Some pages uncut. No previous owners' names or other markings. Foxing to exterior wraps with occasional foxing to plates; closed tears at head and tail of spine (see image). 6 x 9 inches. Shipped through boxed USPS Priority mail.

Original cardstock lithograph proof with caption; verso uncolored and recto hand-colored. Pencil markings to borders of recto. Together with additional lithograph and applied text. Oval Keppler and Schwarzmann stamp to verso dated December 12th, 1910. Cardstock litho measures 14.2 x 19.7 in. The second page measures 12.2 x 18.25.

A bound copy of 685 folio pages (excluding 16 pages of Leslie's Weekly's coverage of the McKinley assassination). Includes launching of the USS Maine, McKinley's Assassination & subsequent coverage of President Theodore Roosevelt. Gala Christmas issue with numerous color plates including Elizabeth Shippen Green's "The Only Child." Lacking spine; boards detached. Textblock nonetheless intact with but few marginal tears. Includes Leslie's September 9th sixteen page issue covering the assassination of McKinley. 11 x16 inches. Bound without the additional heavy illustrated stock covers.

Five small folio volumes. Contemporary half cloth over marbled paper-covered boards; three volumes disbound with covers still present. Le Rire was a successful French humor magazine published from October 1894 through the 1950s. Black and white and color illustrations copiously throughout. Artists who contributed to Le Rire include: Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Théophile Steinlen, Georges Goursat, Hermann-Paul, Juan Gris, Georges Meunier, Lucien Metivet, Jean-Louis Forain, Adolphe Willette, Albert Guillaume, Jules Grandjouan, Abel Faivre, and many others. Boards rubbed and scuffed, board edges heavily abraded, spine ends and corners bumped. Text blocks shaken with some sporadic gatherings and leaves loose, leaves toned, multiple places over-opened. Hinges in two volumes cracked. Large tear on page 7-8 of No. 49 in the first volume. Fifth volume with front cover detached. Backstrips separating on second and fifth volumes.

Embossed metal with four holes for mounting ostensibly issued by Keppler & Schwarzmann as an advertisement for their volume LVIII, number 1496, November 1st issue of Puck but without their distinctive large format name which would have occupied the entire space below "What fools these mortals be" Diagonal white line at legs of Rockefeller and foot of Morgan appears appears to be a production error as there is no gouging of the image. 11 x 14.5 inches overall

With 350 illustrations by Grandville, Daumier, Gavarni et al. .Binding disheveled but contents very good. Smythe sewn by binder allowing for flat opening. German language edition though most cartoons have retained English labels. Over 150 folio chromolithograped caricatures and comics, one third of which are folding.

52 issues: Full numbers 1453-1504, volumes LVI - LVIII. 832 pages plus expanded Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas issues. Half morocco, lacking spine; boards nearly detached. Nonetheless a will preserved text block with some of the magazines best illustrations including those caricaturing the moguls & monopolist of the day. Smyth sewing preserving the gutters. Twentieth century Pucks are much scarcer than their nineteenth century predecessors.
