Original quarter vellum over paper-covered boards. Woodcut initials and tail-piece; engravings throughout including fine full page images. The two works are paged separately but signed continuously (the first ending at Ii3,verso). Same collation as Getty copy but for Index Rerum which is placed at the end in this copy. Inscription of Abbot Dominic Fontanini (in Italian) to front fly describing the author's Monarchia Occidentalis series; two nicks in spine, else a fine copy.

Beautifully illustrated throughout with hors texte plates as well as vignettes; occasional tissue guards, although some image transfer where tissue guards not present. Includes "Treating of the Rights of War & Peace," with annotations digested into the body of every chapter, an Epistle to the Reader, and Preface. This copy lacks the additional engraved frontispiece. Translated into English by William Evats. First complete English translation of Grotius' seminal De Jure Belli ac Pacis.

Half red calf on red textured boards, gilt particulars to spine slightly faded, five raised bands. Corners slightly bumped. Cardinal Cisneros was archbishop of Toledo, and third inquisitor general of Castile, belonging to the Franciscan Order. He also ruled the Crown of Castile due to the inability of Queen Juana. Between 1506 and 1507 presided over the Council of Regency that assumed the Castilian government after the death of the king Felipe el Hermoso while awaiting Fernando the Catholic.
