1865. Ephemera. One sheet of paper with another sheet with the oath of identity attached to the back (the photocopy of the oath is part of the papers that will come with the document). Allen St. John enlisted as a Private on August 18, 1862, was promoted to Corporal on November 4, 1862, and to Sergeant on March 23, 1864. When he joined his unit in 1862 it was known as the 19th Regiment Connecticut Volunteer Infantry. In November of the same year the name was changed to 2nd Connecticut Heavy Artillery. The regiment served in the defenses of Washington, D. C. until May 17, 1864 when it was ordered to join the Army of the Potomac. It participated in the battles of Spottsylvania, Tolopotomy, Hanover Court House, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, Winchester, Fisher's Hill, Cedar Creek, Hatcher's Run, Petersburg, all in Virginia. The papers come framed in a nice vintage double matted bevelled wood frame decorated in black and gold. Condition is near fine.

Cincinnati: E. C. Middleton, 1864. One of a series of thirteen chromolithographs depicting portraits of United States Presidents. In this particular series fine oil colors were added to the printing process to make the final products look like actual paintings. Measures roughly 22¼ x 19¼". The back of the canvas is stamped with E. C. Middleton printing information. Comes in its original oval wood frame with floral motifs done in gilt gesso and original glass. The frame still has its original label. The wood shows some wear on the back. Overall near fine condition.

[Washington, DC], 1861. Hardcover. 36th Congress, 2nd Session. Report No. 78. 365pp. Original brown cloth stamped in blind on the sides and lettered in gold on the spine. A report on the fraudulent abstraction of bonds, held by the Government in trust for the Indian tribes. Wear to extremities, old tape mends and chipping to spine, two names in pencil on two different leaves, minor foxing. A good copy. Sabin 50835. ; Octavo.

Philadelphia: Published by Mitchell and Hinman, 1834. First Edition. Hardcover. 324pp. Contemporary half calf over marbled boards, spine lettered in gold. With the Mitchell and Hinman advertisement bookplate on the front pastedown endpaper. Signature in pencil on front free endpaper. Light wear to extremities and rubbing to covers, old stain affecting upper edge of roughly a hundred leaves. About very good. Howes M684. Sabin 49715. ; Octavo.

Philadelphia: Printed by Francis Childs and John Swains, 1793. First Edition. Hardcover. 175, iii, [3], 178-291, [ii], [1], [24]pp. Contemporary full calf with red label lettered in gold on the spine. The Acts of the Second Congress are of particular importance because they codified the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution (Bill of Rights) and established the United States Postal Service and the United States Mint. A formative moment in early American history. Housed in a custom tan cloth clamshell box. Text block is mostly clean with a stain affecting the edges of some of the leaves. Front cover detached, part of the spine missing, boards are worn. Still an appealing copy of a scarce title in its original binding. Evans 26295. Sabin 15499. Includes A Constitution or Form of Government for the People of Florida, An Act to Take Sense of the People of This Territory on the Policy and Propriety of Becoming a State, An Act for the Taking of a Census of Florida, An Act to Call a Convention for the Purpose of Organizing a State Government, and a table with the census of the territory with information on whites, slaves and free blacks. Mild foxing throughout, heavy toning to last two leaves. Very good. ; Octavo.
