Twelve sections loosely housed in the original portfolio, which is section #1. Section 14, an order form for Aspen, is NOT present, as usual. The 12 internal sections are in very good condition: clean, bright and crisp, with the usual toning of several sections. The portfolio itself is complete, but it does have some staining.. Two items that together demonstrate successful collaboration between a songwriter and a graphic artist: 1) Original sheet music for "Darky Lullaby," standard edition published in 1934 by Robbins Music Corporation in New York City. Music by Jacques Wolfe and words by Irwin Rowan. 6 pages. 4to (12 inches by 9 inches). The sheet music is in near-fine condition. 2) Original letter (TLS) from Jacques Wolfe to J. J. Lankes, dated March 12, 1934 and SIGNED by Wolfe. Accompanied by Wolfe's typed sheet containing lyrics for "Darky Lullaby" and the original postal cover (signed by Wolfe) in which the 2 sheets were mailed. The the letter is lightly toned, otherwise in near-fine condition. The lyric sheet has 2 lightly tanned crossed lines (offsetting from the glue in the postal cover), otherwise very good condition. New York: The Macmillan Company, 1941. xv, 317 pages. Scarce first printing. W. C. Handy (1873-1978) may not have been the actual "father of the blues," but he may have been the most successful early blues musician, composer, and publisher of blues sheet music. Handy's most famous compositions are "Memphis Blues," "Beale Street Blues," and "Saint Louis Blues." Arna Bontemps is listed as the editor of the autobiography, but the best evidence suggest the he was the ghostwriter of the book. The book offered here is in about very good condition: clean and tight, with some edgewear Including some chipping at foot of spine; some color rubbing of cloth on spine; affixed to the front pastedown endpaper is a bookplate ("Community Church of New York Library Gift of Anna and Thomas O. Johnson"). The scarce dust jacket is clean and bright, with some minor chipping and one 3/4" closed tear.. First Edition. Hardcover. About Very Good/About Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book.

Lexington, Kentucky: Windell Press, 1983. (20) pages. Edition limited to 50 copies printed in black and red ink on watermarked Hayle Mill Tovil (Linton) laid paper. Ours is an unbound and unnumbered proof that was handset by Marshall White in American Uncial type and hand printed by W. Gay Reading, Jr. on Victor Hammer's manual Washington press. This was the first book published by the Windell Press. Some light toning at page edges, but the paper is clean, bright, and supple.. First Edition. Paperback. Fine. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Book.

London: George Bickham, Jr, 1737. Original engraved music from Bickham's The Musical Entertainer. "Florella" has been attributed to British singer/composer Bernard Martin Berenclow, who was active in England circa 1689-1710. The engraving is in near-fine condition.. First Edition. Paper. Santa Monica, California: General Publishing Group, 1995. Deluxe edition of Nancy Sinatra's pictorial memoir of her father, which includes both the CD of Frank's music that accompanied the trade edition and 4 additional CDs that are housed in a black leatherette portfolio that matches the binding of the book. The first volume reprints data sheets 1-30; the second, 31-60; the third, 61-100; the fourth, 101-132; the fifth, 133-165. Facsimile reprints of 165 technical articles on making string instruments. All 5 volumes are clean and tight, with occasional minor rubbing of covers. The editors suggest that holes be punched for use in 3-ring binders, but only one volume has been punched.. Home Sweet Home was previously published in Macon, Georgia circa 1865, but that edition did not have any cover art. This edition is quite scarce: we have been able to locate only 5 copies in libraries. The condition is about very good: the 4 leaves of sheet music are disbound, with minimal roughness along the binding edge (primarily from the stab holes) and with a 1 inch by 2 inches corner chip limited to the blank bottom margin of the second leaf.. New Orleans, 1990. Lithographed caricature of jazz clarinetist Pete Fountain by Al Hirschfeld. It is boldly SIGNED, without inscription, by Fountain. Accompanied by a leter of authentication from James Spence Authentication (JSA). Published between 1751 and 1780, Diderot's Encyclopedie represented the first serious attempt to categorize the various fields of human knowledge and activity. It grew out of the work of the philosophes (Rousseau, Voltaire, and others), who focused on human progress, especially in practical fields, as opposed to philosophical thought. Accompanying the Encyclopedie were superb copperplate engravings to illustrate the realms of human activity. Most of the plates were engraved by Robert Benard, who also engraved the plates for the French edition of Cook's voyages. Lutherie plate # III, displays the many forms that the lute had taken over the centuries since its beginnings in 13th century Europe. Folio.  Original Confederate imprint.  Parrish & Willingham 7259.  Macarthy wrote the songi intending that it be used to persuade citizens of that state to join the Confederacy.  The condition of the sheet music is about vey good: the 3 leaves of sheet music are disbound, with minimal roughness along the binding edge (primarily from the stab holes).. Philadelphia: Beck & Lawton, 1857. Folio (13 1/2 " X 10 1/4"). Original sheet music on 6 pages. Cover art is an original stone lithograph by Philadelphia lithographers Schnabel & Finkeldey. Francis Florentine Hagen (1815-1907) was the Moravian minister who wrote the music for this hymn, which traditionally has been performed in Moravian churches on Christmas Eve. Hagen wrote the music sometime between 1836 and 1854, but this 1857 sheet music appears to be the first published edition. Martin Houser's translation from the German poem appears to have been used only in the first edition. Later editions include significantly different lyrics by a different translator. That may help to explain why this sheet music is so SCARCE, especially with this lithograph on the cover--WorldCat locates only two copies in libraries. Nantucket, Massachusetts: Unpublished, 1976. Photograph of rock and roll Hall of Fame member Patti Smith with her youngest sister, Kimberly.  The photo was taken by Lynn Goldsmith (her stamp on the verso) when Kimberly was a roadie for her big sister.  One of the songs on Patti's album "Horses" is titled "Kimberly" and is about her young sister. The photo is signed by both Patti and Kimberly without inscription.  The image is in excellent condition, though there are a couple of tiny dings in the white margin.  Provenance: from the collection of Kimberly Smith, from her home in Richmond, Virginia.. Rhode Island, 1953. A small program the January 27, 1952 concert of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra. SIGNED by both Francis Madeira and Marguerite Piazza on rear cover. Madeira was the orchestra's founder in 1945 and its director until 1978. Marguerite Piazza was the well-known American singer who performed in the Metropolitan Opera, popular television, and night clubs. The cover shows staining and rubbing to edges.. SIGNED. First Edition. Paperback. Collectible-Good+. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Program.

Oxford, England: Basil Blackwell, 1929. vi, 37 pages. First half of the book includes lyrics to popular ballads by the English composer Maurice Besly. The remainder of the book includes humorous epigrams about famous musicians and writers. Some of the epigrams are accompanied by the superb caricatures of the Swedish artist Einar Nerman. Very SCARCE: OCLC locates only 7 copies in libraries worldwide. SIGNED by Besly on the title page, with an inscription on the front endpaper from the author to "Baroness de Bush" (Pauline Joran, the noted opera singer who married William Ernest Bush, the first and last Baron de Bush). The book is in very good condition: tight, with some soiling to cover, moderate wear to corners, and minor foxing in margins of title page and a few other pages.
