Descripción:
[San Francisco], 1967. Unbound. Good. A collection of snapshots taken at the New Year's Wail concert on January 1, 1967 at the Panhandle near Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, with some accompanying images. Various sizes. Condition is overall good with tape remnants or shadows mostly in the margins, but the images mostly pretty clear. Several are captioned. The show, entitled "The New Year's Wail / New Year's Whale" was organized by the Hells Angels as a thank you, and a celebration of the Haight Ashbury community for "crowdfunding" the bail money for their member Chocolate George after a traffic arrest. The Diggers helped to promote the event which featured Big Brother and The Grateful Dead (as well as of Orkustra with Bobby Beausoleil, later of the Manson Family). The bands played on a flatbed truck, and the photographer was clearly very close to the bands, probably on the truck itself. Of the dozen candid photographs of the concert, all but one (the only color image, of some Hells Angels and…

Descripción:
1991. Unbound. Near Fine. Thirteen original flyers, broadsides, and one handbill by artist Lou Rudolph used to promote the art and music scene in the San Francisco Bay Area during the late 1970s to early 1990s. The flyers present images from the gay community and the area's thriving local arts scene, through Rudolph's distinctive illustrations which include depiction of Lou Reed, Cindy Williams from The B-52's, and other local punk musician and artists; three feature photographs of Rudolph himself promoting his latest exhibition. Overall about near fine with staple holes at the corners, some scattered creasing and two with handwritten addresses and cancelled stamp on the back. A key collection of work by this underground artist who has become an alternative culture darling.

California, 1982. Unbound. Near Fine. Sixteen original flyers for the American punk rock band Black Flag, various sizes, in very good to near fine condition with some tape abrasions, slight creasing, and tiny chips from removed staples. Eleven of the flyers are confirmed as having artwork by Raymond Pettibon. Black Flag, widely regarded as one of the first hardcore punk bands, was formed in 1976 by its only continuous member, guitarist Greg Ginn. They were innovators of the West Coast punk sound and were influential in the counterculture of punk both in the U.S. and overseas. From 1981-1984 they were fronted by singer Henry Rollins, arguably their most notorious member. Raymond Pettibon, a highly collected American artist, is noted for his comic-like drawings, ink on paper, and his association with Black Flag and the mid-1970s to late 1980s punk scene. Pettibon, Ginn's younger brother, started as a bass player for the band. He suggested the band's name (changed from the original name, Panic, in late…

Naples, Italy, 1859. Very Good. ALS. Quarto bifolium, 1p. Napoli, December 3, 1859. Folded with postmark ink stamps and postal delivery note "per Liverpool" in manuscript. The upper right corner is partly creased, else near fine. In this letter to his father, the confident young Bostonian Gustavus Hall explains his decision to abandon college and become an opera singer, noting that he has secured work as a teacher, and that he will be studying under two Italian masters:"I wrote to you weeks ago giving you my reasons why I could not enter the college! I now wish to explain what I am doing. I have got Maestro [Domenico] Scafati & I have also a master of the Italian language & I have placed myself at the disposition of Messrs. Rogers Bros & Co. I have told them all my money shall be placed in their hands & I will act under their disposition. As it is now, I draw checks upon them for my master of music & Italian, for my house & piano rent & receive about $1.75 per week for my meals & no other money.…
