1944. Unbound. Fine. Ten matted black and white photos. Measuring 11" x 14". Fine fresh photos in near fine mats with some toning, scattered wear at the corners, and ink dates (some written over existing pencil dates). All Signed by Jacobi on the mounts. A collection of photos of the wife and children of Milton Wolff, a social activist and the ninth commander of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade of North American volunteers who served during the Spanish Civil War. Jacobi, an émigré who fled Hitler's Germany, was a prolific photographer known for her portraiture of the most important people of her time including, to name just a few, Albert Einstein, Marc Chagall, Paul Robeson, Robert Frost, Eleanor Roosevelt, and the iconic photo of J.D. Salinger that appears on the first edition of *The Catcher in the Rye*. The portraits here were taken in late June of 1944 while Milton Wolff was overseas fighting in World War II. Berlin-Westend: Verlag der Reihe, 1929. Hardcover. Near Fine/Fair. First edition. Small quarto. 100 photo-engraved plates. Minor dampstains at the extremities, else near fine in a tattered, poor dustwrapper. Housed in a cloth custom clamshell case. Lengthy Inscription by Krull to Stefan Lorant in German. At the time both photographers were already well-known for their work in photography, film, and photojournalism. With the rise of Nazism, Krull moved to Monte Carlo, then Africa, and finally Southeast Asia after the war, while Lorant, author of *I was Hitler's Prisoner*, emigrated to England (where he co-founded *Picture Post*) and then the United States where he was confidant to Marilyn Monroe, the Kennedys, and *Life* magazine founder Henry Luce. Rare in jacket, and with a magnificent association linking two of the most important photographers of the time.

About fine in very good or better dust jacket with a bit if rubing and tiny nicks and tears. A handsome copy of this beautiful photographically illustrated essay about the black experience, with striking images photos by Dorothea Lange, Jack Delano, Russell Lee, Ben Shahn, and others, with text by Wright.

[San Francisco], 1967. Unbound. Good. A collection of snapshots taken at the New Year's Wail concert on January 1, 1967 at the Panhandle near Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, with some accompanying images. Various sizes. Condition is overall good with tape remnants or shadows mostly in the margins, but the images mostly pretty clear. Several are captioned. The show, entitled "The New Year's Wail / New Year's Whale" was organized by the Hells Angels as a thank you, and a celebration of the Haight Ashbury community for "crowdfunding" the bail money for their member Chocolate George after a traffic arrest. The Diggers helped to promote the event which featured Big Brother and The Grateful Dead (as well as of Orkustra with Bobby Beausoleil, later of the Manson Family). The bands played on a flatbed truck, and the photographer was clearly very close to the bands, probably on the truck itself. A collection of 18 black & white photographs (gelatin silver prints), ranging in size from approximately 10.5" x 10.5" to 15" x 19", by the Arizona based photographer Duane Martin. All are tipped onto artists boards, most are Signed and captioned in pencil. A near fine set that features many beautiful Arizona landscapes, still life compositions, and architectural prints. The landscapes were taken in the vicinity of Humphreys Peak and the Coconino Plateau between Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon. They include four winter scenes and two early prints of large trees along the bank of a lake, and alongside a country road, both strikingly reminiscent of Jean-Baptiste Corot. The still life prints include ceramic vessels and bottles, a Hummel figurine, and a journalist's desk top titled "Flash News". Estill. 1891") in silver on front board and the number "322" on the rear. Light shelf wear, minor rubbing at the tips, else tight, bright, and unmarred, and near fine. The volume includes cabinet photographs of 15 members, many loosely inserted in page mounts, each signed below by the member. Additionally there are two unsigned photographs of unnamed older African-American men, presumably servants; and two additional images: one of the skull and bones, the of the ivy-covered entrance to the Tomb. Philadelphia: Gilbert & Bacon, 1918. Unbound. Very Good. An 14" x 10.75" Image of a basketball team, on photographer's mount that measures 20" x 15.75". Photo is fine, large piece of the mount is broken from top right corner, the corners of the mount are rounded, very good. Small pencil notes identify the team and date. Fourteen fine young men in uniform, two coaches, and a basketball.

Long Beach and Berkeley, California, 1941. Hardcover. Very Good. Four volumes. Octavos. Contemporary leatherette three-ring binders to which wood grain and patterned contact paper were later applied. Two albums filled with ephemera and two contain 69 gelatin silver photographs, measuring between 4" x 3" and 6.75" x 5". Overall very good or better with the contact paper covers torn and peeling at the edges, the hinges of the photo albums cracked, and all the ephemera with punch holes, some of which have pulled through. An archive of photographs and ephemera from James Fisher-Northrop, a graduate to Ben Franklin Junior High School and Long Beach Polytechnic High School in Long Beach, California. Meadville, Pa., (and other locations): Keystone View Company, 1933. Unbound. Near Fine. Gelatin silver stereograph card. 7" x 3.5". Top corners of the card neatly clipped (not touching the images), else fine and bright. Images of Ruth in baseball uniform in (panama?) hat with hands on hips, with a few other players (including we think, Lou Gehrig) in the background. Company reference number of "32598" on the card.

1950. Unbound. Near Fine. A collection of eight duplicate paper halftone plates and two photos, with nearly 40 copies of each, of three wrestlers of the late 1940s and early 1950s. The plates are cardboard with a bit of wear to the extremities but none affecting the half tone image, near fine. Three of the plates are stapled at the top, two come with a folded paper flyer touting the wrestler depicted, Marvin "Atomic" Mercer, though only one of the two flyers is attached. The black and white photos, featuring now-forgotten wrestlers Joe "Poland's Pride of the Mat" Swinick and Rory "The Hoosier Hurricane" Wayne, come with 38 and 43 copies of each image. They are somewhat curled at the extremities, near fine. Mercer was a star of the East Coast wrestling circuit in the late 1940s and early 1950s. *Ripley's Believe It or Not* dubbed him "The Atomic Wonder" due to his "unequalled [sic] speed, unsurpassed scientific ability [?] and unparalleled aerial strategy," according to the flyer attached to the… Leer más

An archive of 1950s Yo-Yo Champion Lawrence Sayco with more than 300 photographs of him performing and traveling around the United States, Europe, Australia, Philippines, and Hong Kong to promote Duncan Yo-Yos. Along with programs, flyers, original art, and assorted ephemera related to his promotional tour. The photographs range from 2.75" x 2.25" to 8" x 10". Overall near fine with only light wear to the photographs and scattered toning and tears to the ephemera.
