Original black cloth with blind-stamped decoration and image of a ship on each board. Complete but well worn; spine slant, corners rubbed through, small losses of cloth at head and foot of spine, moderate foxing and soiling throughout. A good reference/reading copy. Hall, who signed on to the New Bedford whale-ship Condor at the age of 15, suffered so much abuse on board that he and a companion deserted on the coast of Siberia. They spent the winter of 1858-59 at a Russian penal settlement and were rescued the following summer by another New Bedford whaler and taken to Honolulu before returning to New England. Narrative of the author's hunting (musk ox, caribou) and explorations in 1889-91 in the region north of the eastern end of Great Slave Lake. Includes descriptions of the country and the life of the Indians among whom he camped (Arctic Bibliography 13527).

Issued as No. 167 in Harper & Brothers School District Library series. Spine rubbed at edges, light scattered foxing, reinforcement to map on verso. Written on the front free endpaper "School District Library No. 13, Town of Oysterbay." Wrangel "was appointed in 1820 to command the Kolymskaya expedition to explore the Russian polar seas. Sailing from St. Petersburg, he arrived at Nizhnekolymsk on 2 November 1820, and early in 1821 journeyed to Cape Shelagskiy on sledges drawn by dogs. He sailed afterward up Kolyma River, advancing about 125 miles into the interior, through territory inhabited by the Yakuts. Original red cloth with decoration in gilt and black. Spine lightly sunned. Blind stamp and "withdrawn" ink stamp of the California Academy of Sciences Library on title page, but no other markings. Sound and clean. Miscellaneous Documents of the House of Representatives for the First Session of the Fiftieth Congress, 1887-'88, Volume 19. 4to. 128 pp, with many b/w illustrations from photographs and two color plates of birds (auks). Bound in full leather with red and black spine labels. Boards are scuffed and lower spine label is mostly chipped away, handwriten number on spine, otherwise unmarked and sound. Report of the Corwin's cruise in Alaskan waters, Bering Sea and Chukchi Sea, May-Oct 1884, a one-man inspection party at Point hope, a small party's exploration of the Kowak (Kobuk) River and another of the Pribilof Islands; with appended reports on conditions of the natives, fisheries, and seal islands by members of the expedition (Arctic Bib. 18400).

London: Robert Hale Ltd, 1954. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. 155 pp. Spine and edges lightly sunned. Binding is tight and square, text is unmarked. Dust jacket is price-clipped and has several sizeable chips missing from the top edge. Recounts the ordeal and rescue of members of the British North Greenland Expedition and the crew of the airplane that was sent to resupply them, but crashed on the way in.

London and New York: John Murray and Lee Keedick, 1913. First American Edition. Hardcover. Good. Two volumes in original blue cloth. A bright and attractive set with minimal wear, but lacking one folding map, at the end of Volume II. Amundsen's account of his well planned and ultimately successful bid to be first to reach the South Pole, beating the English expedition led by Robert falcon Scott by several weeks.
