It is what the title says. Obviously, without modern advancements in semiconductors, fullerene, graphene, superconductors, or AI. But, to understand those, you have to start somewhere else. No dust jacket. Very little shelf-wear, almost like new. A ridiculously massive biology textbook, very much all-inclusive, but not something you'd want to carry to class every day. A rare edition. All I have found online are editions from the early 20th century. This would be a great sourcebook for quiz nights. I was a teacher for 40 years, but some of these questions stump me.
No dust jacket. The tan fabric covered boards show just mild wear at the edges and corners, and there is one small dark stain on the right hand edge of the front cover. The real wear problem is that the endpapers have split, both front and rear. Photo #3 shows the front split, the rear is worse. New endpapers might well be in order, if you feel up to that.

I suppose after 37 years, some of the issues aren't quite contemporary any longer, and there may be new ones, especially with the advance of the electronic age. The ten sections of the book do all seem to be still relevant in today's world, so it is not that far removed from "contemporary".

A small book with brief histories of ten areas and peoples, with illustrations. Intended as a text for students starting their study of countries of the world. The deep red fabric shows some wear at the corners and the extremes of the spine, plus a couple small spots of bleaching. The binding is tight and the pages are clean and unmarked. A rare book.

Some wear around the edges and at the corners. Scattered notes throughout the book. In remarkably good condition for all the years and miles it has travelled. This is one of a number of books I acquired at an estate sale in Seattle that originally belonged to one Gertrude Pritchard of England in the early 1900s. I have gathered all of these books in a catalogue called "Pritchard Library".
