United Kingdom: Ian Allan, 2005. New book, 96 pages, 100+ photos and maps. After World War II the first real action the 101st saw was in July 1965 when the 1st Brigade of the 'Screaming Eagles' was blooded in the Song Con Valley, Vietnam. It acted as a rapid reaction force, reinforcing American and South Vietnamese forces when necessary, becoming expert in rapid helicopter assaults. The 2nd and 3rd Brigades arrived in December 1967 in time to take part in the reaction to the North Vietnamese Tet Offensive. The 101st and the 1st Cavalry were sent in to recapture Hue in a battle that raged for three weeks and was the only extended urban combat of the war. Following Tet the 101st saw continuous combat including fighting on Hill 937 - 'Hamburger Hill' - which was some of the most brutal of the war. The last Army division to leave South Vietnam, the 101st spent almost seven years in combat. Contents: Origin and History; Organisation, order of battle and how this changed; Battle History,… Leer más

Descripción:
Osprey Pub Co, 2010. New book, 48 pages, MAA458. Evolved from the colonial units created by the French, this book discusses the original reorganization of these forces into the first national army. Complete with a detailed history of the command structure and orders of battle, the author also sheds light on the little known divisional histories of the army through rare, original source material. Moreover, the author examines in detail the evolution of such key units as armoured forces, ranger commands as well as combat unit organisation. This together with a detailed analysis of the experiences of the typical rank and file soldier as well as officer corps provides a concise and detailed history of an army that is too often neglected or quickly judged.. Soft Cover. As New. Illus. by Bujeiro, Ramiro. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Descripción:
Osprey Pub Co, 2009. New book, 32 pages, WAR135. The North Vietnamese Army is often forgotten by the histories of the Vietnam War. Commonly mistaken for the locally raised Viet Cong guerrillas, the NVA was in fact an entirely different force for the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. After first supporting the VC in the Republic of Vietnam in 1958, the NVA entered into their own violent armed struggle as the war escalated. Entire divisions and vast numbers of NVA troops were sent south, conducting large-scale operations in a conventional war fought almost entirely by the NVA, and not the VC, as is often believed. Despite limited armor, artillery and air support, the NVA were an extremely politicized and professional force with strict control measures and leadership concepts - soldiers were expected to be totally committed to the cause, and to sacrifice all to ensure its success. Gordon Rottman follows the fascinating life of the highly motivated infantryman from conscription and induction through… Leer más

Histoire & Collection, 2013. New book, 66 pages. This publication covers the chronological evolution of uniforms, equipment and weaponry issued to the American soldier during the first years of the conflict, from 1962 to 1967 (a second volume will cover the 1968 to 1975 period). All of the uniforms and equipment shown are period, however some of the weapons are replicas. In the aim of depicting characteristic servicemen at given periods, a great deal of research was undertaken in order to guarantee coherence between the units, dates and geographical situations. Differing from other publications, the author has deliberately chosen to illustrate all types of service personnel rather than solely combatants in order to give an exact presentation of the American military during this period. Indeed, it should be remembered that 85% of service personnel in Vietnam were support troops and advisors.. Soft Cover. As New. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
